I doubt the road will ever be reopened for motorized vehicles. It is, however, one of my favorite places for cross country skiing on the odd occasion when there is enough snow.

Our family of four first went on the High Country Jeep tour with Buck as our tour guide. We had a blast! The road we traveled on took us high in the mountains, and the views were spectacular. Buck was a very energetic, informative tour guide. He provided alot of fun and interesting history about the colorado springs and the... More

My husband always takes visitors on this drive up through Cheyenne Canyon and then on to an unpaved, one lane but two way shelf road over Colorado Springs. I could never drive it but the views are fantastic. I now ride in the back seat. It's a wonderful experience.

Another favorite among the locals is High Drive. To access it, take North Cheyenne Canyon all the way up past Helen Hunt Falls until the road turns to dirt. If you like heights and guardrails this road may not be for you! The views of North Cheyenne Canyon and Helen Hunt Falls are gorgeous.... and when you get out of... More

High Drive is a nice mountain drive close to Colorado Springs. You get beautiful mountain views, natural tunnels, and it dumps you out literally in Colorado Springs. Great place for a picnic, as there are a few pull off spots.

Perhaps not on snow in a 2wd vehicle, but otherwise a great escape! Good views, some tunnels, saw some bears as we joined Gold Camp Road, great drive!

I LOVE hiking up on High Drive. It's at it's best when the road closes to cars in the fall, so that you can hike without distraction up the road, but before the snow. Park at the parking lot at Gold Camp, hike up to Capt. Jacks and then take the switch back up the mountain, or get to the... More

It's never open! I've tried this road at least a dozen times and it's been open like one time! It's a beautiful drive/ride when it is open.

My wife and I try to avoid tourist traps. This drive was just awesome. Coming from Florida we don't often see mountains and this tight little drive up windy, tree lined mountain roads was beautiful. There were plenty of places to pull off and take photos. To clarify other reviews the road is paved for part of the way and... More
