While we didn't see as much wildlife as we hoped, this was still an amazing place to visit. There is a visitor. Enter with some nice exhibits. Various walking trails along lakes allowed you to observe many birds. There is an 11 mile driving loop. Our goal was to see the Bison. We drove thru, saw deer but couldn't spot... More

I accidentally stumbled upon this refuge and it made my day. Almost immediately entering the refuge I saw wildlife. There must have been 15-20 deer just grazing along side of the street. If you are into birds, you wont be disappointed. I caught Meadowlarks singing on top of fences, Black-billed Magpies eating roadkill and Robins everywhere. After entering through the... More

While there weren't quite as many wildlife as I initially hoped, we did get to see some prairie dogs/gophers, deer, and - my goal - bison. One bison was actually walking across the road as we approached a turn in the road, and stopped a few feet away from us to scratch his back on a post.

We were eager to see some bison on our trip to Denver so this seemed like a good option. It started to snow as we arrived so it was not ideal conditions for getting out for a walk. We stuck to the car for a driving tour. It should be noted that there are many places along the driving tour... More

When we pulled up into the park we noticed there weren't very many trails to get out and stretch your legs, but that downside was met with a huge upside when we drove into the buffalo area. Because we were met by a herd of them walking across the road and eating grass on the side, and it was just... More

Went in feb and was cold and windy but still saw a lot of wildlife. Will have to come back in the spring to see what the area looks like then. Saw deer, buffalo, tons of different birds depending on the area. The visitor center is nice and has the history of the area and it's many uses over the... More

A friend brought me here to experience bison at sunrise (winter sunrise, so after 7 AM). It was a beautiful drive in the gorgeous colors of the rising sun, and we could see bison, deer, prairie dogs and raptors from the windows of our car. If you come here expecting to be able to hike, you might be disappointed, because... More

We were in Denver for a conference and had a few hours to spare and we wanted to get out of the metropolitan area to find nature. The Arsenal Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful and necessary place for wildlife. It has a very nice visitor center and friendly staff. However, there is mostly driving and not much for hiking. It... This wildlife refuge is beautiful! It takes about an hour or so to drive all the way through, but you can take more time depending on how many animals you want to stop and photograph and see. The mule deer were very interactive, they responded to our voices and would turn to look right at the camera! There are birds... More
