To understand Creede you have to understand a bit about mining and this walk through self-guided tour underground is wonderful. It familiarizes you with mining methods from 1890 to today. It takes maybe 20 minutes and is so worth it!

The Underground Mining Museum is a great stop. It is loaded with information about the history of mining in the Creede area. Try to catch one of the tours guided by a local miner.

You never know what to expect with small museums, but this one was excellent. The former miner was very knowledgeable and friendly and answered questions afterwards. The displays were well done. Be warned...It's underground so dress warm!

Very complete tour with good audio guides. Showed the progression of mining techniques and equipment. Be sure to wear one of their jackets; it gets cold underground.

We spent a pleasant hour walking through this museum located on the edge of town. Although never a working mine, the site of the museum was drilled out of a mountain to replicate a mine and to house the museum. The museum shows how mining...More
