We stopped along the way a few times for pictures. It was worth the time. A lot of cool looking peaks and trees, rock formations.

Twists and turns you won't believe -- beautiful views, tiny tunnels, steep cliffs. This is not for the faint of heart. You definitely want to be sure you start early so as not to have to drive the hairpin curves in the dark -- and, if you do, watch out for the black cows grazing along the roadside!

We've done this drive, in conjunction with Shelf Road, several times & enjoy it every time. It is an all day trip to do the 2 roads & also spend a little time in Cripple Creek & Victor (which are 2 historic mining towns; in fact, gold is still being mined there). Being in a jeep or truck (or the... More

The road used to be used by the railroad in the 1800s to bring miners and supplies up to the 10000 foot old fields. Now it's a gravel road that takes two hours to travel, winding narrow in spots, but unspoiled wilderness views similar to that seen 100 years ago.

This road goes from Cripple Creek, through the town of Victor, to US 50 east of Canon City. It is an old railroad grade, so even though it is a dirt road, it is wide and level, and suitable for all vehicles. It passes through scenic canyons and a couple of old railroad tunnels, and over a couple of high... More

What a ride! Such a great ride through the mountains! Lots of switchbacks on a narrow road. Was busy the day we drove it (Thursday). Met lots of cars and trucks driving pretty fast. Watch out for others when driving this road😊.

First, it's a long ride. Probably about 26 - 28 miles on gravel. Didn't bother us, as we were not in a rush. It is not a rough off- road trail. We used my sister's Civic! It IS very narrow in the middle part of the drive. Nothing too terrifying, but some wonderful views. Hard to believe they put a... More

Took the back way into Colorado Springs which we were staying. Map and GPS didn't give a clue that the road would be 1 lane at times and 38 miles of dirt road, but the views you see as you come through the canyon are UNbelieveable! We were shocked that it even existed, almost nobody was on the road (a... More

This is just plain country style dirt road through fairly decent mountain, nothing fancy. You don't need 4x4 or high clearance. I have one but never needed it. One thing I didn't like was that there were quite few young men on sedans that were speeding through like if they were on a racing track. Gave me a few close... More
