The canvas was his ally. The paint and the trowel were his weapons. And the Art World was his enemy. Discover an American Master at the Clyfford Still Museum, home to the world's most intact public collection of a major American artist. From October 14, 2016 to January 15, 2017, the Clyfford Still Museum will display more than 260 of Clyfford Still's works on paper in the Museum's largest exhibition to date. With very few exceptions, paintings will not be on view in the Museum during this time.

When the rest of the group wanted to go to the Clyfford Still museum, I agreed although I had been there just a couple of months ago. I was happy to discover that all of the artwork on display was different than before, making it a pleasure to discover additional aspects of Still's work. We didn't have time to take... More

This place is true jewel: the building itself is a splendid restrained exercise in intelligent lighting and space layout. The paintings of Still are displayed magnificently, there is no other word, just as he would have wanted. And the paintings themselves, which vary frequently by design, are fabulous.

Still was one of the first generation of Abstract Expressionist artist of the post WWII generation. He left New York, and eventually decline to sell or even show much of his work and offered 1000s of paintings to a city that would build a Museum for it. The are monumental works, raw and precise in execution, and very dramatic. Well... More

As someone who is a regular museum goer, I can't say enough about the perfect execution of this small museum. I know saying something is a gem is a bit of a cliche but this is really a gem. From Brad Cloephil's concrete building to the rotating exhibit of works from the collection, to the electronic timeline, the curated window... More

We took our children 11 and 14 there over a school break. They actually had a good time. The collection is well organized, the museum itself is beautiful. The kids enjoyed seeing the progression of his work through time. This is a good date night or add on if you are visiting the other museums in the area.

If you like Clyfford Still artwork, this is the museum for you. The have the biggest collection of his work. I found it interesting that they had his old paint brushes, knives and even old pickle jars containing the different pigments he would use to make his own paint. It's located right next to the Denver Art Museum.

The museum was free last Friday, so I suggested we start date #2 with a walk-through. There's a quick little 6-minute video overview in the atrium that is super helpful. The building was constructed specifically to show these works, and its exposed concrete is as interesting as the artwork at times. We spent about an hour discussing the many different... More

great scale- not overwhelming and the story behind Clyfford Still and how the museum ended up in Denver is nothing short of very cool. anyone could relate. the building is wonderful, lots of natural light, but screened. outdoor gardens, views into the work rooms. The size will even work for kids.
