Easily accessible by car....we walked only a little, because in the past 2 days we did a trail in Mesa Verde Nat'l Park and also a section of the Colorado trail.... but interesting! part of the trail had a skateboard park with deep depressions that the riders traversed at fast speeds. This was a treat since coming fom NYC, I've... More

This is a great path that you can access in downtown Durango. It's fun to watch river-rafters and people fishing as you stroll or bike down the path. There is a fantastic playground along the path next to the Durango Chamber of Commerce. A really cool outdoor music section to the playground. Only drawback is the waft of stink that... More

Good scenic trail, but way too short. The stops along the lower (south) end are convenient for shopping (Holiday Inn, Albertsons, etc...) yet still off-track enough to keep the wilderness beauty aspect of the Animas River that it skirts throughout. The info. kiosks about local history are a great idea. There used to be nothing but an old Purina Feed... More

My hotel was right on the trail, and I was thrilled to discover such a beautiful spot for an early morning walk.

I enjoyed jogging on this trail by the river, through town. It was also great to walk the dogs, so they can swim in the river and meet other dogs. You can bike on the trail or just walk and enjoy some solitude.

We followed this river for a long ways and it is very senic all the way. I think the river contains mining debris and chemicals from long ago but it will gradually become better.

easy walk, well maintain just be aware lots of bicycles and runners so stay to one side, I think they should have to have a bicycle bell and ring it when coming upon walkers just like they do in Germany to alert walkers.

We started at the Holiday Inn that was at one side of the trail. We walked the trail all the way to the library, saw the Durango train go past, and then walked back to the Animas brewery which had great beer and food. We then walked up Main Street hitting the other three breweries in town which took you... More
