This place is so beautiful and rustic - we're used to hiking in the Rockies but this is something altogether different. Rustic desert canyon with huge boulders and a river cutting through it creating a fascinating oasis. Careful with canine companions though- I kept a tight rein on my boy because I was just imagining the $400 vet visit from... More

I've gone to this lovely little park a few times and I liked the Canyon rim trail so much that I never tried anything else, until today. I liked the east side a little better because you don't hear so much highway traffic but neither are poor choices. There are also some decent options for strollers.

This is a hiking and rock climbing park. No camping. Its a family favorite for day hikes and getting out of the house in the winter time. Love it.

Anytime there is a nice day during the winter, we try to find a way to head outside. This February has been full of 50-60 degree weather so we've taken advantage by doing some of our favorite outdoor activities. One of our favorites is Castlewood Canyon State Park. From the paved loop just down from the parking lot to the... More

I decided to bring my boyfriend home with me this year who has never been to Elizabeth or Colorado really. So I asked him where his favorite spot was that we visited and this was it. It's quiet, peaceful and not over run by people. I've loved this place since I was a kid. The best part is, it never... More

We visited on Dec 30th. There was still snow in the shaded areas of the canyon and ice on the trail, but still manageable to hike. The East Facility area has a well paved trail if you have strollers or wheelchairs. The West Facility area was the best for varied levels of hiking and rock climbing, but not good at... More

I call this "hidden" but it is not hidden to folks that live in the south Denver metro. It's a wonderful place to go for a nice leisurely walk or, for the more adventurous, do some rock climbing. My family and I love to go see the birds of prey. (Or try to anyway!) Peak summer weekends are too crowded... More
