This is right off the road and quite beautiful! It is just as pretty in summer and winter with the ice!

Cannot believe this " thing to do " does not rank at the top. The winter views are breathtaking . We were here for the first time last year and we snapped some unforgettable memories. The area is easily accessible so if you are driving thru, it's a great spot to get out of the vehicle and stretch you legs... More

A majestic fall that can't be missed if you travel here. The high granite walls and deep pool below are the jewel of the entire gorge, though a hike through the gorge doesn't lack in primal beauty that made me feel I was in another time. A great, isolated spot for nature lovers.

The Uncompahgre River cuts a deep gorge through the mountains between the alpine towns of Silverton and Ouray, Colorado. The scenic section of US550 that follows the river through the gorge is called the "Million Dollar Highway" because it cost $10,000 per mile to build in the 1880s. Now it's part of the San Juan Skyway scenic byway loop. At... More

The Uncompahgre Gorge is the narrow valley just south of Ouray that is traverses by the Million Dollar Highway (U.S. Highway 550) which is also part of the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway. As the highway climbs its way up through the gorge south of Ouray, you'll find a winding, narrow road that in many places has no shoulder or... More

Just south out of Ouray alongside US 550 (The Million Dollar Highway: originally a toll road built by mining entrepreneur Otto Mears for what was considered an outrageous sum in the day. Nowadays you'd get about a mile of Interstate built for that!) is the Uncompahgre Gorge. An absolute "must" stop is at Bear Creek Falls. A viewing platform takes... More

I will agree with another post, this is great as a passenger. I was driving so I wasn't able to look as much as I would have liked to. There are a few spots to stop and I recommend that. There are plenty of things to look at on the way.

This waterfall is seen as you travel the famous million dollar highway between Ouray and Silverton, CO. It's a must stop and see, hear, and enjoy.
