I cut my offroad teeth on Yankee Boy 25+ years ago on a local guided tour. It was amazing and we decided "we" could do this and bough our first Toyota 4Runner. We've been back multiple times per year every since. The trail is very easy access right above town, so you will get a LOT of first timers and... More

This trail was ranked as one of the beginner, easy ones, however, we found it to be more difficult than we expected. There were some passes that were near steep drop offs and were clearly only 1 car width, so we feared we run into another vehicle and have to back up the hill. Sites were pretty. There were some... Now granted Yankee Boy Basin is beautiful and stunning and the flowers are terrific......but......... it has become a bit of a freeway.... too many.... people flying up and down the roads in rentals they probably shouldn't be driving and blowing past people who are actually behaving as they should on the mountain roads. There is very easy access to Yankee... More

In the spring when the wildflowers break out it'll take your breath away. If you're afraid to drive to it, you can get a jeep driver in Ouray. Places to hike and picnic.

You must go here. You can do it most times in a pickup truck. Jeep would be best but a pickup with decent clearance can make it. Just be careful when you meet another vehicle. Can be a little tight in places but there are many pullouts. Once you get there you will be glad you came. Go!!!

This is a beautiful drive with more than enough visual "eye candy" if you are a nature nut like me! I took so many photos that my card was filled and had to down load for the second half of the trip! The water falls could be seen from the areas we traveled. The scenery was green and lush! The... More

This road right out of Ouray is a wonderful drive. We attempted this road with some snow on the ground. It is best driven with a 4x4 and with caution. Similar to some of the other trails, there are cliffs and narrows passes along the road but nothing too challenging or technical. The views are amazing and worth the drive.

Our Colorado West Jeep tour got us here during the peak time for wildflowers (late July in 2016). The waterfalls were also still flowing freely and the scenery was nothing less than spectacular.

A MUST if you have 4x4 we loved it and there was not too many areas that were "scary" The mountains were steep, and the wind was up when we were there

Took a great trip in light snow and cold. Good driver with lots of info on the mines and the road to the top. Like to see the place in the sunshine. Not a drive I would do myself
