Literally breathtaking in that the climb up the stairs reaching the actual lookout site is lengthy and steep. Metaphorically breathtaking in that the vistas are spectacular from this little lookout building. The meadow below is a nice place to have a picnic before those stairs.

If you are ever up this way, take the hike up to Devils Head - it is definitely worth it! The Ranger is a smashing guy, down to earth and very accommodating! The view is breathtaking and you can see as far as the eye can see!

This hike is totally worth it. The tower on the top is something you can't find anywhere else and the view is amazing. It's an easy less than 3 miles hike, great for families with kids and dogs. This makes it a little bit crowded on the weekend so you'd better go early otherwise it's hard to get a good... More

Nice long trail w/many opportunities to rock climb along the way. Easy enough trail but very long and ascending. When you get to the top, you have the option to climb the narrow 100+ stairs to the forest service's fire lookout tower. There's a forest service ranger there who's really nice & informative, and you get to see some pretty... More

A must hike. A 3 mile round trip from the parking area. It's a moderate hike to the lookout, but well worth it. Dogs on leash allowed. Billy is the Forest Service lookout and has been doing it for 33 years. He has some great stories. He will be there this year through October 1st. The view is amazing from... More

Don't under estimate this hike. Wear good shoes and bring water and a snack. My friends used hiking/walking sticks and they've done it in the hundreds of times. This is a place where you have to pack in and pack out. Composting toilets. Not smelly, just a fact. There is no water at the top. They trail can be slippery... More

The Devil's Head Fire lookout trail is 1.4 miles long with a 940 feet elevation. It took us about 1 hour and 15 minutes to hike with lots of switch backs and amazing views. Once there, you will clim 140 steps to the actual lookout. It's windy and challenging and well worth the climb. The view is breathtaking! Bring a... More

Highly recommend the hike to see the amazing views at the top. Some of it is quite steep so wear the right shoes and bring a water bottle!

From the one lane roads getting there to the incredible views and steep climb to the fire lookout, this place is amazing. Our family went there on a visit to Colorado for my husband's 41st birthday and absolutely loved it.

Fun family adventure hike. It's a long 10 miles of dirt road and switchbacks to the Devils Head Trailhead. We took our time as we have a very low car. We came on 4 of July so there was minimal traffic. But I hear it's a popular hike, so you may want to arrive early (early morning) and get good... More
