This hike is tough but you are rewarded by such beautiful sceenary you forget the difficulty. Just make sure you start early to avoid the afternoon showers so popular in the summertime.

Starting out getting our feet soaked in a waterfall wasn't a great start, but luckily I brought an extra pair of socks. The trail through the forest was nice and leisurely, but the incline up to the actual lake was very snowy and a bit...More

We have been when there was still snow and ice and when it is mostly thawed and it is absolutely stunning either way! (Between you and me I prefer the thawed version more) We bring our kids and our Jeep and wander for hours each...More

Unbelievable. Hike is hard but not challenging. If you are new to hiking in Colorado you may try something different but you don't have to be an expert. Just pace yourself.

In an area packed with amazing Alpine terrain, why does everyone go to the lake? The San Juans have hundreds of miles of marvelous trails, wildflowers galore and plenty of delightful creeks. Yet everyone and their dog wants to hang out at the lakes. If...More

We were told the view is spectacular, it is true. We were not disappointed. The hike is not easy, but worth it when you come to this pristine blue lake. It is a must see if you are in Silverton.

Keep in mind a few things: 1) It is very strenuous. The way up passes by some steep edges, you have to cross a few shallow but fast-moving streams, and it is uphill all the way there. 2) The bugs can be horrible. We went...More

I can't answer for sure, but we were up there over 4th of July last year and there was just a bit of slush to traipse through at the top. The main hike was completely clear and summery. It's been a pretty warm year, so I... More
