Free museum that you could spend 15 min or 2 hours exploring. Everyone visiting Vail should know about the 10th Mountain Division, the US Army WWII unit trained in the Rockies to be a unique force fighting in the mountains of northern Italy; they pioneered the development of the Colorado ski industry. Also on display are Olympic uniforms, photos, videos... More

The Colorado Ski Museum was a nice visit. It took us about 90-minutes for the total experience. We particularly enjoyed and appreciated the exhibit about the 10th Mountain Division, US Army WWII unit who trained in the Colorado Mountains and fought in the mountains of northern Italy. It filled us with patriotism and inspiration for the sport of skiing, hiking... More

The Colorado Ski Museum is a must see. We watched a documentary about the history of the 10th Mountain Division. We also saw artifacts including original skis from the 40's, clothing and survival supplies. Colorado has such a rich history of men who served the United States during WWII. The men who came home were visionaries and thankfully fell in... More

While killing time waiting for the bus, I popped into the museum. It has a great collection of prototypes and early production models of snowboards and predecessor products. Also some nice stories about the inventors of these, and the pioneers from early days, including interesting snippets on patents and commercial disputes. The films from the 80s looked amazingly dated, made... More

The Ski Museum in Vail is small but definitely worth an hour or so of time. The have a wonderful exhibit on the 10th Mountain Division including a great video. It was so interesting to learn about the impact these soldiers had not only on the outcome of WWII, but on the development of the ski industry in Colorado. Skiing... More

The museum is free but donations are happily accepted. There are lots of great visual displays of the history of skiing and snowboarding. There is also an exhibit that gives more info on the 10th mountain division that trained near Vail. The gift shop has nice little gifts that will fit better in a suitcase than a pair of skis.... Cousin that was in the 10th Mountain division. Very nice museum. Interesting displays and videos. The Olympics uniforms and equipment of the last 20 yr was intereating. Snowboarding displays were also fun to look at. Very nice gift shop. Several books available regarding the 10th Mountain Division. Well worth 1-2 hr of your time. Be sure to make a nice... More
