I LOVE this place- so much history and the structure is so interesting. Been closed for a few years due to low funds and a species of bats living in the mines. You can still explore the outside area if you want.

We enjoyed visiting this sight during our trip through northern Connecticut. A lot of local history of a period long ago.

I was there in the early 60 ties I now read a sign on I91 that it is closed. I checked on Tripadvisor several reviews state that it is closed. The part that was the old mine and then the prison is closed. The surrounding...More

I'm a big history buff and really enjoyed meandering around this prison. Just thinking about what these folks went through while touring the site is mind boggling. Take your kids and enjoy yourselves.

Had my two older kids in town for a rare visit. Decided to take a day trip here and it was lovely. Interesting place with good history...but the view is amazing in the fall. Nice day trip!

A very interesting part of New England history. The surrounding area is beautiful New England country side, and is a great place for a picnic. Unfortunately, it is not currently open.

We went on the guided tour at Halloween which provided a lot of interesting information. Tour guides seem well-informed and knowledgeable.

Was, and I mean WAS, a nice way to spend a couple of hours at this former prison. Budget cuts--it's been closed for the past couple of seasons.

The sign on I-91 says it's closed a lot of the time. Go when its really hot out, cause it's cold and dank and full of hidden history. Quite facinating and a good spot to cool off in!
