A quick .75 round trip fairly easy uphill walk to the dam. The main road has side trails and there is a canoe portage point at the bottom with picnic tables. Lots of joggers and bikes.

Very interesting to see these special creatures in a natural setting. If you get lucky, you might even see some juveniles 'wrestling' in the air or an adult fishing. The attendants can answer all you questions.

It seems the day my family visited was one of the few when no eagles were spotted--bummer! We will go back to try again another day. The volunteers are very impressive with their knowledge and dedication. Dress warmly, bring binoculars and prepare to sit, wait and watch. Try to get a seat by the fire inside the shelter!

You will be required to make reservations, the guard will not let you enter without. Eagles are totally amazing for a few months each year. Because it is on the hydroelectric plant the water doesn't freeze allowing the eagles access to fish during the cold weather.

We went on a whim one day since it is free. It is only open Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from December - March (mid month). We were amazed at how wonderful this place is! All the staff/volunteers are extremely knowledgeable and so excited and willing to answer any questions you have. When we were walking from the parking area to... More

We've been here a few times and have had totally amazing eagle sightings and other times it wasn't very good. You can't predict wildlife - so you have to roll with it and hope you're there on a good day! Worth going! Dress warm!!

Like typical wildlife, you may and you may not see much. The staff there are very good at finding the elusive birds and are eager to help you find them. Too bad they can't guarantee birds, but it is nature after all. It is a nice setting, but again maybe, maybe not for many eagles

Call ahead, you usually need an appointment. Also, you need to make sure it is the proper time of year to view the eagles. If weather is cold, dress appropriately because it is an outside venue. There is some shelter, but it is unheated. Bring binoculars.

This is worth making the reservation and spending a bit of time watching the splendid Eagles soar over the Shepaug Dam. Bring binoculars if you have them for a better view. Dress warmly and plan a small walk to get to the tower.
