IF you can ever find this place open and can get into it, you will find an amazing collection of historic artifacts. For those interested in local history this is the place. Their collection includes the entire fire department exhibit donated to the Society some time ago. The problem seems to be that this historical society, unlike others in the... More

Need to call ahead to set up a free tour with Millie who is the heart and soul of the museum. Large, beautiful old house with nice architectural details and a voluminous collection covering all aspects of Winsted, a town located in Winchester town. While in the area, visit Ralph Nader's Tort Museum, a block away. It's a gem.

Our group of 4 didn't know what to expect when we scheduled an appointment with Millie, the Society's curator but glad we did. You have to make an appointment since there are no standard hours. We spent over 2 hours listening to Millie while going through the old Solomon Rockwell House which is fully furnished with the original contents from... More

The Winchester historical society is one of Connecticut's best kept secrets! In addition Winsted has the Soldiers Monument which is also part of the town seal. Combine a historical trip with a shopping experience at the artist enclave of Whiting Mills. Top it off with a dinner at one of the great restaurants.
