The Delaware Museum of Natural History opened to the public in 1972 to excite and inform people about the natural world through exploration and discovery. As the only natural history museum in the state, the Museum welcomes more than 75,000 visitors each year to experience an African watering hole, gaze up at a giant squid, encounter a jaguar face-to-face, and marvel at the diversity of shells from around the globe. Gallery highlights also include the only permanent dinosaur collection in Delaware, a simulated coral reef, and a Science in Action paleontology lab. Throughout the year, the Museum also hosts several special exhibits on national tour.

I took my trip to Wilmington really with this as my main focus and it did not disappoint. It is small but does have a nice variety of things and shines light on things I really didn't think about before, like Mollusks. The dinosaur exhibit...More

This is a wonderful place to bring children. My grandson never gets tired of going there. We have a yearly membership. A nice perk is that your membership is good at certain other museums.

We used our Brandywine Treasure Trail Passport today to visit the museum. The staff was courteous and engaging. Some displays were cool, most were average and nothing too spectacular. The dinosaurs were cool. I think children under 7 would really like it here. We didn't...More

Awesome little Museum. Lots of hands on for the kids, but us adults enjoyed it too. Loved the realistic sea world encased in the floor. Couldn't get a good pic because of the glare. Nice gift shop.

Not a heck of a lot to see here, this caters mainly to kids and families. The museum itself is quite small and does not contain a great deal of exhibits. There is a walking trail out back, but it was too hot and humid...More

Very nice small museum that seems most appropriate for the younger crowd. We visited with our grand kids, ages 4 to 11. They really enjoyed themselves, both inside the museum, and walking around the grounds playing on the sculptures. We'll keep this on our list...More

We stopped here as Winterthur was closed. What a surprise. It is designed for children and has plenty for them. However, I loved the displays, explanations, and organization of the museum. I am often overwhelmed by large museums but this one was perfect for me....More

We made the trip upstate to see the new dinosaur exhibit. The museum was very crowded as it was a "free" morning from 9:30-12:30. My two sons were oblivious to all the people and happily walked around the displays. A family can easily entertain kids...More

Delaware museum of Natural History is a great location to spend a couple of hours entertaining toddlers and small children (adults too!). Presently, the special attraction is a dinosaur exhibit with lots of hands-on action: digging for fossils, making dinosaur footprints, and even a educational...More
