The Amstel House is the first mansion in Delaware and was home to an early Governor. Originally known as "The Corner," this was the most important home in the late 1700s. High society came to this house, including George Washington, who attended a wedding here.

I was wondering how great this place was going to be, and it met my expectations. The guide was great. It is one of many reasons to visit New Castle.

Nice look at history of area. Lived in surrounding state for years and have been through New Castle many times and did not know its early history. Well worth the visit.

The house was built for Dr. John Finney in the 1730s. Much of the original woodwork and other architectural details are still present. The guide not only provides a history of the house, but also the lives of the prominent families that live there.

This is a very interesting Georgian house. It is large for it's time. George Washington really did attend a wedding there! The guide was knowledgeable. You get tickets for this tour at the Armory not far from the courthouse.

Visited and toured the Amstel House as part of the extensive Christmas Holiday weekend festivities and open houses in New Castle. Docents in each room were informative and knowledgeable. They kept things moving along. The history was interesting.

Also should be combined with Old Dutch House. Very well furnished for the time period and very good guided tour of about 45 minutes. You do a see the second floor but not the third floor. No bathroom facilities. Nice small garden out back.

Visited the house last evening for the Halloween tour. Lovely place with very knowledgeable staff. Can't wait to go back in the day time.

A lovely old place. They have ramps, but you can see that originally each addition ended up with a different floor level. The kitchen fireplace in the back looks like it was used extensively.

This small home is a quaint look at colonial America. Washington attended a wedding here. This house can be visited with the Old Dutch house on the same tour for a little history of New Castle.
