We just came home from the most wonderful day at Winterthur. We are members and have been there a few times, but today was special. Arriving a bit before noon, we had lunch in the cafeteria at the Visitors Center. They have a great salad bar and very tempting desserts as well as a few soup choices, sandwiches, hotdogs and... Loved the Yuletide tour! The museum is stunning and the dollhouse is not to be missed. If you have kids, stop by the dollhouse first to pick up a pamphlet that lets kids go on a sort of treasure hunt in the museum, looking for life sized versions of the miniatures they saw in the dollhouse. Everyone we encountered --... More

After trying to get friends to join me unsuccessfully, I decided to venture out on my own. I absolutely loved the Yuletide tour, never seen anything so beautiful. The mansion and history too were interesting. With the weather not being too bad, I decided to venture out to the enchanted gardens and walk around to the koi ponds and pool.... More

Winterthur delivers first class tours of this historical, painstakingly preserved, old mansion. Like the man who glorified her, it is unique. The Christmas tour is exceptional, and the venue well organized. Hordes of tourists and locals descend at the holidays, and they are guided through Du Pont's home with efficiency and caring. The docents that guide you are well versed... More

Winterthur was home to four generations of du Ponts from 1839 to 1969. The spectacular 175-room former home and country style estate is not to be missed. The furniture and art is exquisite as well as the world- renowned collection of 90,000 antiques and decorative objects. The dollhouse which can be viewed at the end of the tour is exquisite... More

Karen and I were astounded at the collections of furniture, china, household items from the 1700s and 1800s. The tour of the house/museum was over much too quickly. We enjoyed meandering through the grounds and recommend Winterthur as a must see

We visited in the winter and were very pleased with the tour of the house and rooms inside. Most impressive was George and Martha Washington's china service. A great peak into how the rich and wealthy lived.

Expected the home & gardens to be more opulent. Although certainly grand, it seemed very livable & welcoming. Our docent was wonderful & handled everyone's questions expertly. Compared to other historical homes of this caliber, this home seems to reflect the progression of family members' values & interests in a very personal way. Enjoyed lunch at outdoor cafe, it was... this is a little jewel. the grounds are beautiful and the parking is adequate. depending on the weather you can stroll for hours through the gardens. the gift shop is a must stop as they have some unique things. i shopped until the luggage was full.

Add hours to your day in the Brandywine Valley for your tour of Winterthur. The Garden may just be enough but step inside the Museum to take home the memories that you came for.
