Great views

Just driving along sight-seeing, it was a very nice drive with an even better view. Lots of bird watching and trails.

This is a great indoor/outdoor museum centered around a ceremonial mound on the shore right next to the Crystal River. It details a group of Native Americans who lived here between 600-900 CE and then disappeared. They were gone before Europeans started arriving and they didn't become one of the nations or tribes that we know from the 17th c.... More

This is a very nice wooded park with ancient mounds along the Crystal River. Quiet and informative. The museum was closed when we got there

I was actually surprised at home much our teenaged boys enjoyed the site - from the 8 minute movie to the artifacts to the actual mounds, Stele stones and the view from the river! Great activity for the price ($3 per vehicle!!).

We stopped here on our way home from Georgia. We watched the video first which I recommend before you go walking around. We brought a lunch and ate by the water.

There is a small museum whch is well done. The walk outside is very interesting and unique. Get the map from the museum which explains much of what you see outside.

Crystal River state archaeological park has several mounds dating from 1000-500 BCE as well as a small museum. The museum is small but clean and well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The museum takes about 10-15 minutes and the walk around the mounds is another 15-20 or so. Definitely a fun little diversion for archaeology/history buffs staying in... More

We stumbled onto this park today and we live here!!!! It is amazing that indians were here before the Spanish. You can tour around the grounds to see the burial sites.....there is a short movie to watch that is interesting. Not kid for little kids...they will be very bored.

A pleasant way to spend a couple of hours in a delightful location and learn something about early Indian settlement in the area. Make sure you watch the 8 minute video before you tour the site. Park ranger informative and helpful. No charge but $3 parking fee applicable.

Saw the newspaper article on the Moon Over the Mounds event to be held at 8 PM on March 10. Three ladies decided to check it out earlier in the day. A three dollar offering is asked for parking a vehicle. We weren't quite sure how many steps there we're up to the top of the mound and whether we... More
