peaceful place to enjoy nature

If you love nature and don't like to fight crowds, this is the place for you. There are trails if you like to go hiking and places to go fishing. And best of all, It's free.

Went today and loved it ! So much land !! We didn't see not one alligator or turtle sadly. Maybe it's the season or bad timing. But I will definitely be making the drive back sometime and I'll check out some of the other trails as well.

I've seen nesting eagles, otters, Bobcats, swallow tail kites, marsh rabbits and many of the wading shore birds you would expect! It's worth the time. You can hike to an observation tower were you can look down and see alligators, harrier hawks and many more. Twice I've had sandhill cranes stay on the trail with me as I've walked by... More

I used to visit here as a child, and was pleasantly surprised to see it's still just as beautiful! My husband and I enjoyed an easy short walk to the observation tower, and saw so much in that short time. There are many different trails varying in distance, so you have options. Be sure to bring water, a hat, and... More

This is an amazing nature preserve with lots of trails. We hiked 4 miles and we saw eagles, hawks, cranes and more birds than I can name. We saw around 10 gators sunny on the waters edge, plenty of turtles, but the highlight was the otter. We saw an otter on the trail, rolling, playing and keeping us in site.... More

We always stop at the ranger station, because we get the best information for the most interesting sightings and trail information. This time it was no exception. The volunteers at the station are obviously passionate about their work and even took the time to take us to the eagle nest. We got a sighting of the Bald Eagle feeding the... More

We visited the nature refuge on a very cold day and there were a lot of animals out to photograph. We saw a Giant Blue Heron, White heron, egrets, Hawks, and Eagle, Alligator and several species of ducks. We only did one loop of the park due to the cold but the wildlife was spectacular

As a native of Florida, I've only experienced a handful of hiking trails. However, the great expanse of wild habitat is truly a beauty to behold at Lake Woodruff. The only sounds you will hear are the wind blowing through the trees, squeaky calls of Moorhens, and maybe the cries of an osprey. There are many different routes to take,... More

If you have a penchant for wildlife in it's natural habitat, in a natural atmosphere that reflects what Florida looked like before developers found it and ruined so much of it, then please come here. Walk a shorter or much longer distance, marvel at the birds, reptiles, and mammals, and let your blood pressure slowly go down.
