We took the ferry over, a short ride with all of our gear packed in the wheelbarrow the Park provided. Check in was easy, we were taken to our cabin quickly by van. It's easy to see this park is run by people who care about it. We were treated so well, got to know the Rangers and volunteers. Went... More

Take advantage of all the state parks of Florida have to offer - this one is free (including the ferry ride!). My wife and I spent a little over an hour here, could have spent much more. Get a bike and ride the island road, hike the nature trail, enjoy the park!

We were trying to go the Blue Springs National Park this morning, but they were temporary closed since they only have access for so many cars. So the Ranger gave us the tip to visit Hontoon Island. It was only 18 min away from there. We parked the car and took the ferry (3 min trip) to get us to... More

The park is very well cared for. The staff and volunteers are friendly. The camping area is small, but the cabins are situated with enough space in between them that are not disturbed by the other campers. A few trails to hike (but we did not like the marking of the trails - they need improvement)

I was only there for a short visit and took a walk along the dirt road. It was peaceful and quiet. There are more trails but my arthritis did not permit me to walk farther. The small visitor center had several interesting displays and should not be missed. The park does have a small playground and picnic tables.

My family and I love Hontooon Island! The staff are knowledgeable, kind and courteous. The store has just about anything you could possibly need from water, to firewood, to even marshmallows. We took our 2yo camping on her 1st overnight adventure here in March. The was exceptionally cool but perfect for camping. The staff helped us determine how much firewood... More

We took a short ferry boat ride from the parking lot across the river to the island. The ferry ride and entrance to the park is free, but they take donations to make improvements to the park. We took an enjoyable 3 mile hike on the island. We saw some birds in the trees We saw a manatee swimming in... More

Hontoon Island is accessible by a small ferry boat from a very small parking lot. Make sure you are going at a time when it campers are not checking in/out or you could be stuck for a very long time waiting for the ferry. The small boat will take you across to Hontoon where there is a nice playground, picnic/grilling... More

A little off the beaten path but well worth it. Camping facilities seem nice, although we haven't stayed in them. Trail were well marked, and maintained. Offered a nice chance to see a little of untouched Florida. Even a bit of a history lesson if you cared to stop into the little museum and walk to the indian shell mound.... More
