My wife and I have been coming to the island for years but had never visited the museum prior to today. This island has a long history of numerous nations trying to conquer it, thus the designation of "Eight Flags". We have wanted to learn more about this part of history. Our tour guide was filling in for the regular... More

This building used to be the jail and some jail cells have been preserved. There is a lot in a small space. Spent about an hour or more and glad we visited.

We had a wonderful, knowledgeable docent on our tour who truly loves the history of Amelia Island. We traveled through history in each room as the flags of different countries who claimed Amelia were explained. Well preserved artifacts and displays. Very friendly staff and enjoyable visit.

The Amelia Island Museum of History is a must-see if you're visiting historic Fernandina Beach or Amelia Island in general. It gives you great information relating to the vast history of the island, which has served under eight flags since it's beginning. There is plenty of free parking in front of the building with only three or four steps to... More

Amelia Island has a rich history, and you can learn about it here. We took the guided tour, and at first, I wasn't sure we made the best choice, but the information and 'fun facts' that we were presented with were priceless. NOTE: These were items of interest that you would not receive if you went through the museum on... More

Definitely worth a visit to get an orientation of the area. For a rather small museum the exhibits are well done and provide a lot of information.

Excellent docent lead tour! As an educator, I loved the history of all the flags and industry. There is a great area for kids, but otherwise mostly for adults. We will come again!

The museum itself has great information and is set up nicely. The tour was exceptional! The tour guide's ability to stitch the Amelia Island history story together in a concise and comprehensive manner was phenomenal. There were close to 20 people taking the tour today and as I looked around the room, everybody was fixated on her every word. Rare... More

Saw the good ratings on TA and heartily agree that this is a small but must see museum in the area. We times our visit to take advantage of the narrated docent tour and were very pleased. In addition, we lucked out to be able to attend one of the periodic speaker presentations that was very popular with the locals... More
