Best part is close up look at large birds

Not necessary for a vacationer. There are a few cages with large birds that were hurt. There is a planetarium for people that have never seen one before. If you have been to one... read more

The Center exceed my expectations! The nature trails are beautiful and well marked. So nice to have this protected area in our city. The staff are fun, knowledgeable, patient with kids, and the presentations are interesting for all ages. We spent our afternoon outdoors and enjoyed seeing the birds of prey. We are looking forward to our visit to see... More

While visiting Ft Myers to attend a cultural event we decided to see what the city had to offer given the short amount of time we had. Calusa Nature Center was centrally located and very easy to navigate to. While there we were given hands on introduction to the reptile exhibit and the bird aviary. Every staff member we encountered... More

My wife and I became members this year after we learned that the center is struggling financially. Please visit, you won't regret it! Best natural area around!!

Management response:

Zeke, thank you for your wonderful, helpful attitude! We have indeed been struggling and recently succeeded in raising the money to replace the large aviary, which so desperately needed it: that will be torn down and new construction will start at the turn of the year. Until the new construction is completed and inspected, the birds and some of the... More

This is a nature preserve that has been surrounded by a city! I enjoyed the walkway through the forest and marshy land but other than that and seeing the owls I was not too impressed. It was a nice get away for the afternoon when we locals had not much to do.

Hard to know where to begin. From the girl at the front desk who said "welcome victims" and said negative things throughout her spiel "you can pet the snakes but why?" To the presenter at the nature show who asked the crowd of young families "who has ever been put in a chokehold?" And snakes climb into cribs and strollers... More

So we are new to Florida and checking out different things as we can. I noticed this place as I was driving to a different destination. The cost of going is okay. It is $10 for adults $5 for kids. There is a yearly family pass for $50. Please keep in mind the cost of going is what keeps them... More

The entire center needs attention including the parking lot. Not many animals and most of the nature walk was flooded (can't help that). It would be nice if they had information about the animals next to them such as; what they like to eat, how long they live...etc. Aside from the live animal show, I didn't feel like we learned... Management response:

Dear Christol, Thank you for drawing our attention to these issues. We are in the process of replacing the aviary and refurbishing the boardwalk, so the animals are being moved fairly regularly as construction and teardown occurs in various locations. Signage has improved since July, definitely. As the animals move back into their new permanent locations, signage will become more... More

My girlfriend and I went here while on vacation it really wasn't what was expected and they charge 10.00 a person to get in. I am all good and well with donations but let people decide on what to give. There was only a few animals there mostly bird of prey. Good for small children they will have a good... More
