MOEC is an ideal place to learn more about the Treasure Coast's unique environment and its inhabitants, including the threatened Florida manatee. Inside you'll find an educational film (with closed-captioning), various aquariums, a touch-tank and interactive displays - all of which are enhanced by wonderful volunteers. Eco-boat tours are available along with a wildlife observation tower which provides visitors a bird's-eye-view of the Indian River Lagoon. MOEC is situated at the mouth of Moore's Creek which is a popular spot to see visiting manatees during colder months. There are 400-500 manatees living in our area year-round but, considering their backyard is 156 miles long and connected to a multitude of creeks and canals, it is never guaranteed that they will be visiting the Center at any given time. Please feel free to call ahead in advance to ask whether manatees are present. MOEC is supported by donations, memberships and the proceeds from its gift shop The Vanishing Mermaid.

Not really worth going by unless you just want to go to the gift shop. Didn’t see any manatees and the Center costs.

Unfortunately there were no manatees present when we visited but we did learn things in the education center. Come on folks it's $1 to get in and have a good time.

This is a great place to learn about Manatees and about local sea life in general. Generally - it is also usually a good place to see manatees. Unfortunately, due to a recent bout of cool weather, the manatees were apparently elsewhere seeking warmer water....More

We knew a little about manatees before our visit and left knowing a lot more! Staff were incredibly helpful. Sadly we didn’t see a manatee.

Manatees cluster here in cool winter weather because of the warmer water coming from power generators. The access is good and the little museum provides details and manatee gifts.

With a price of $1 for those over six this is an excellent stop. The educator assisting with the touch tank was excellent with children and knew what she was talking about. The rat snake was held as well as conch, sea cucumber, hermit crab...More

Cold weather limited manatees in the area. The lookout tower improves seeing manatees in the channel.

The volunteers at the center were knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. It was my first time seeing sea horses! In one area, there were aquarium tanks and with the assistance of an employee you could touch the variety of marine life. Different workshops...More
