A Wonderful Way to Spend a Morning

Mrs Too and I tried something new to us this winter, “camping” by renting a cabin for four nights in each of two Florida State Parks. Our days of RVing and tent camping are now... read more

The Loxahatchee River is a scenic river but in my opinion the further upstream one goes the more beautiful it becomes so probably canoeing it's upper reaches would be a better option for those with more time and energy. That being said taking this boat tour is still a good option to see some of the river's flora and fauna,on... More

Wife and I opted to rent a canoe instead of the river cruise that did pass us with a minimal wake! A short paddle downstream to the creek where we saw otters and a couple gators. Less than a two hour trip but just wonderful, we are both in our sixties and this was not strenuous at all and very... More

Never heard of this park before, have lived most my life in north FL. One of my fellow Trikkers -- 3 wheel human powered cambering vehicle -- suggested I would enjoy doing the trails and the nature there. To my surprise, it has been more than I expected. Fri evening after arriving and setting up explored some of the paved... More

Although the scenery and wilderness is stunning you won't get a chance to enjoy it. The captain runs the boat at high speeds over manatees and the wake knocks the turtle off branches and spooks the birds. More embarrassing are the looks on the faces of kayakers as he comes around bends and almost runs them over without stopping. There... More

This boat trip is run by park concessionaires, so you can blame Florida State Parks only for letting this go on unchecked. One also suspects that this park's staff, " couldn't care less." Reckon that they cast a blind eye since they are not in charge. The fee is $20 a head. The come on is that you have a... More

And that about sums up our boat trip! Cost is fair; boat is fairly comfortable. Captain was OK, didn't really have much to say as far as information about our ride, boat, river, or park. He was late to get us started and no reason given. He did discuss the wildlife the park has and we might see. We saw... More

This was a great trip, very inexpensive, relaxing, and informative. Tides and weather permitting, the boat takes you to Trapper Nelson's where a tour guide provides information on his life and the property. The captain had good information about the flora and fauna along the river. We even saw two manatees!

The boat ride is available on Tuesday and Wednesday, but Trapper Nelson's camp is not available then. The weekend finds the river loaded with canoers and kayakers and you will see no wildlife. Also, call ahead and find out when high tide is available for the boat to get to Trapper Nelson's camp. Low tide means the boat cannot get... More

Mrs Too and I tried something new to us this winter, “camping” by renting a cabin for four nights in each of two Florida State Parks. Our days of RVing and tent camping are now only happy memories. We ran across this river tour during our stay at Jonathan Dickinson. The Loxahatchee is a Federal and Florida designated “Wild and... More

This trip was wonderfully enlightening and educational. We were bringing northern friends to see Florida habitat and we learned a lot also.
