This was one of my favorite things my mom and I did on our trip. If you’ve been watching capybara videos on Instagram for months, this is your opportunity to finally see one! I especially loved the floofy sheep named Olaf who came over when I called him!

You have to hit the right days, but this is an amazing place. Orphaned and unwanted exotic or unusual and abandoned animals. Always try to visit here! She runs this place entirely on donations! Amazing.

I read about the Sheriffs zoo in a local book while staying in Key West. Our vacation happened to match up with the days that the zoo is open ( only 2 days each month. Check the website.). This zoo, right over the bridge at Key West is held at the correctional facility. People have been bringing unwanted animals there for years. The inmates care for the animals. The property under the building and to the side is filled with animals like tortoises, a skunk, cows, goats, pigs, donkeys, and some exotic animals too... the most popular being the sloth, that you can pet! The inmates will tell you about the animals and their care. You can pet many of the animals. This is a free zoo and many families were there with their little ones. We brought our 30 year old adult daughter and we all loved it! What a great addition to the area. Very unique!

I was so happy to be visiting Key West while the farm was open. I've always wanted to stop here but the visiting hours are limited. The inmates help care for the animals and are very friendly. There is a large variety of animals that have been given their forever homes. Several animals are highlighted for petting. I got to pet Moe the sloth! The facility is nicely cared for and donations are very welcome.

An absolutely wonderful experience to meet and greet exotic and domestic animals up close. The staff was friendly and professional-shared lots of information with kids and adults. A must do. Please donate-no fee to enter.

The Monroe County Sheriffs and individuals from the jail care for a small "petting" zoo on 2nd and 4th Sundays at the Monroe County jail from 1:00 to 3:00 PM . The little kids really enjoy it, lots of turtles, an alligator and Ferretts that can be petted as well as variety of other animals that have been saved over time. It is low key and enjoyable.

Farmer Jeanne and a succession of sheriffs have supported the development of this zoo that is maintained by the prisoners and supported by donations from the community. Farm animals, exotic beasts from around the world, and abandoned pets have found their way to this haven for rejects. The entire project is good for the prisoners, the staff, the animals, and the community.o

This surprising petting zoo, situated at the County jail, and staffed by inmates, is a beautiful place to take all the family. The collection of animals is diverse - from alpacas to lemurs, alligators and miniature ponies....and glorious peacocks strutting the meadows!
Only open every other Sunday form 1-3pm, so be sure to check that it is open when you want to visit - it will be worth your while.

This animal farm is run completely by "volunteers" at the Monroe County Correctional Facility. All animals are surrendered, abandoned or rescued. A wide variety of animals, and you can hold and pet some. The inmates do a great job keeping the place clean (compared to many other zoos, etc.), and it is nice to see their soft side bonding with the animals they care for and who need and love their attention.
