Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

I ended up going for a school trip, paid nothing. Well worth the time, I saw a prey mantis, an alligator, and various wildlife and insects. The weather held out for the day, wasn't too humid or hot. There wasn't a lot of bugs like...More

It is OK unless you are truly a naturalist then it is probably Great! Pricey for what you get and we did not see a lot of wildlife. Personally once was enough. There are better things to see first.

The boardwalk extends for 2.25 miles above swamp. Its a great place to see what Florida really was before all of the construction and experience random critters. The Sanctuary opens for a night walk on full moons, very cool experience.

Don't bother visiting. I drove an hour, paid $14 , and saw only a raccoon. People were taking pictures of insects because there was nothing to see. Extremely disappointing!

My wife and I decided late one morning to check it out. It is extremely nice with a great boardwalk cutting through very cool swampland. The large loop is a little over 2 miles and there is a shortcut (about a mile shorter) available. Since...More

Amazing place! Saw mom and baby alligators, all kinds of birds, interesting trees and vegetation. Great cafe and excellent gift shop. Bought a solar butterfly, it lights up every night! Great day trip!

This was my second time to visit the sanctuary. My husband and I arrived early to try to photograph as many birds and wildlife as possible. Saw a lot of egrets, herons and even a kingfisher. Be prepared for the mosquitoes though, but of course,...More

We were in Naples a month and visited Corkscrew two or three times a week. It never disappointed. It is a boardwalk that winds through diverse ecosystems and the birding is phenomenal. The lakes are especially exciting with so many waterbirds, alligators and turtles seemingly...More

Yes, with supervision. The boardwalk has a railing throughout but as we've seen kids can sometimes overcome barriers if they're determined and not supervised. You might call the sanctuary for further guidance but I didn't... More

No, dogs are not permitted on the boardwalk unless they are a certified service dog.

Not sure you really need one as they have volunteers stationed around the boardwalk that will help with sightings. They also offer tours. If you contact them they may have some independent guides they work with.
