Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

Lots of boardwalk through huge old trees. You may be able to see a variety of birds....... we've gone when we have seen all sorts of birds including owls and then a visit where very few were seen. Still worth a visit for a peaceful walk away from the traffic!

Very interesting place with safe raised boardwalk. Viewing of animals varies with season and time of day. A wide variety of wild creatures inhabit including deer, racoon, alligators, many species of birds, snakes, lizards with a variety of trees and plants. Audubon affiliated. A bit of a challenge walking the whole circuit for seniors but wheel chairs are available on... More

We walked the length of the boardwalk ( almost ) to the left just to see a bunch of turkey vultures but then things started happening. Several egrets, other birds, alligators were hanging out in the swamp. We saw a frog jump completely over an alligator -but I think it was eaten up anyway later on when we saw the gator... More

We spent a couple of enjoyable hours walking around the boardwalk. We even saw an alligator and baby alligators. Our only suggestion for improvement are more guides on the boardwalk and a better cafe. Otherwise highly recommended.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is wonderful for anyone who wants to learn about these ecosystems, see wildlife, or just soak up nature while walking. All the paths are boardwalks, in very good condition. The Audubon Society has done a good job of preserving several different ecologies. It was peaceful and quiet though there were other walkers, all were respectful of the... More

A lovely and well maintained boardwalk through 500-600 year old Cypress trees, and we saw hawks, eagles, birds, alligators, alligator babies, lizards and more. It was the dry season but there was still plenty to see. We were there with 2 kids, pre-teen and teen, and even they enjoyed it for about 3 hours. I could easily spend 3 days... More

What a great place to experience nature. We saw a red-shouldered hawk pick a fish out of a wet spot, two gators having a disagreement, countless songbirds, and cypress trees over 500 years old. Because of the long Florida drought, the usual 5' of water was just a couple of shallow mudholes, but the walk on the boardwalk through the... More

The boardwalk is an easy stroll through many shady areas. Both strollers and wheelchairs can easily navigate the trail (we saw both). The swamp was pretty dry this month but we still saw raccoon, alligators, and a hawk.

We saw water snakes, gators along with a lot of baby alligators, lots of amazing birds and some pretty geckos. There is so much to see we could easily stayed longer but ended up running short on time as we had booking we had to get too. We spent over 2 hours there and could have easily stayed longer. It... Helping to restore the Everglades and part of the Audubon Society, this attraction is a great place to see all kinds of animals and birds. As well as cypress trees and catch a glimpse of what Florida would have been like generations ago. A must see.
