Long hidden on the fringe of Florida's Gulf coast and overlooked by developers until well into the 1880s, Naples' catalyst for settlement finally arrived forty years later when two rival railroads rolled into town within ten days of each other. Set in Naples' restored Seaboard Air Line Railway passenger station, the Naples Depot Museum welcomes visitors back to the railroading boom days of the Roaring Twenties and explains how generations of Southwest Floridians used technology and transportation to conquer a vast and seemingly impenetrable frontier.Seminole dugout canoes, a mule wagon, antique swamp buggy, restored rail cars and exciting interactive exhibits tell the story of how trade and travel transformed Naples from a napping village of 300 souls into today's glittering Gulf coast resort. The Naples Depot Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is conveniently located in downtown Naples.

Good museum to find out the interesting history around the Naples area. Especially interested in the native Americans which the museum provided information about too.

The story of Naples was interesting but would have like to know more on how it became the wealthy enclave that it is. The 5th Avenue is a must place to walk and enjoy. Very nice area to walk.

Naples Depot Museum shows the progress of Naples, with emphasis on the 20th century. Good introduction to the Calusa people who settled and lived here, then a jump to the early days of the railroad that was responsible for the rapid expansion of SW Florida...More

Nice small museum. We took our grandson and he enjoyed the little train ride around the property. The museum was very informative about Naples. The Lionel train shop was very entertaining especially to those that grew up on trains and children. Small but very nice!

A good place to go to shelter from both the sun and rain. Fascinating facts and very informative. There is a small train ride that people can take too.

Free. The museum has artifacts, nicely displayed, to illustrate different aspects of Naples history. There are things from prehistoric times, Native American history, African American history, land development, railroad history, military history and tourism. The displays have variety and color. They range from a mastodon...More
