The New Smyrna Museum of History highlights the rich history of the southeast Volusia county area. Our building was built in the mid 1920s and served as a post office for approximately 40 years. Originally founded in 1768 by Dr. Andrew Turnbull, his settlement, New Smyrna, lasted only nine years. The center of the museum is dedicated to this settlement and the brave and hearty souls who originally settled our area. Included are videos, artifacts, models, and panels. The exterior portion of the museum is a timeline of our area. Items of interest include ancient fossils, a Civil War display, dozens of historical photos, a working archaeology lab, World War I and II information, and a beautiful and moving display to the local men who served in the military during the Vietnam War. We also feature a room that offers short term displays of local importance. These displays change 3-4 times per year and are sponsored by local groups and individuals. A small gift shop, featuring local and Florida history books and other items is on site. Our museum does not have a set entry fee per person but does ask for donations. These donations help cover operating costs and maintenance of the building.

Love timeline history of NSB

Great view of NSB history over time. Well done for a small museum. Found several nice items in the gift shop. Including indigo and history.

Nice little place to stop. There is street parking. I advise parking, walking around the shops, grabbing a bite to eat and stopping in.

This place may be a little small but there is a ton of information packed in here! They don't allow photography bc some artifacts are copyrighted but it's a nice and very informative place to come and visit! Learned a lot and definitely worth all the donations !!!

We have been coming to New Smyrna for years and stumbled on the museum. It's free and self guided with lots of free books on certain portions of the history of the area. Great little find!

Wonderful staff, interesting museum. Great break from beach. Good for both families and adults. Well worth traveling inland to the quaint downtown area. Tucked away so it was a nice surprise when I unexpectedly found it while wandering Canal Street.

It's always nice to know more about quaint little towns. When my family moved here, we took to embracing the local history. Surprisingly, we didn't know this gem was here for the longest time. When we finally stopped in, we found it delightful. The folks that staff the museum and friendly and knowledgeable. They even got our young daughter excited... More

This museum is very well organized and easy to follow the history of NSB from the first settlers all the way through today. The volunteers that run the museum were nice and really knew the history of the city. The displays were really well done, well presented. It's easy to miss this little place, but if you visit NSB, please... More

This is a quaint little beach town. This museum is free of charge but of course they accept donations! Local history and artifacts of NSB. Allow about an hour to walk through and read all about the town and speak with local historians.
