- nicole CPortsmouth, Virginia77 contributionsMust visit if you’re in the area! This was awesome!!! I highly recommend a visit! They give you a cup of food to feed the birds. I was a little nervous to feed the emu but it was gentle. The birds are gorgeous and the park is way larger than I thought it would be. I spent over an hour visiting with all the birds. Definitely surpassed my expectations.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 10 November 2023
- Melissa P2 contributions8/10 😀Don't judge a book by its cover on this one! My son and I were not sure what to expect when we arrived but were pleasantly surprised. The owner operator was VERY kind and knowledgeable. The birds are rescues who would otherwise likely not have homes. Like typical birds who are not handled daily they can bite you. We followed the instructions we were provided about how to feed them and did not have a single issue. Many of them talk and are extremely friendly when given the opportunity to warm up to you. It is all outdoors so, don't be surprised if its warm. The price was more than reasonable! There are so many birds too interact with, be sure to ration your treats. 8/10 only because I wish I could have fed each and everyone of them!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 August 2024
- Ebony KKaty, Texas20 contributionsHidden GemThis was the best $5 I've ever spent!! If you're looking for an atypical activity to do in Pensacola, this is it. The birds here are beautiful. Feeding them from your hand gives you an up close interaction that you can't get at the zoo. Some of the birds even talk! I'm so glad I found this place. My kids had a blast and so did I!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 September 2024

What a wonderful little gem. All the birds are rescues, which makes it so much more special. We each got a full banana to take around for the birds to snack on. The gentleman working there took extra time with my 11 year old and made his experience top notch. We’ll be sure to visit again soon.

We stopped in not expecting much. But we were blown away. There are 151 birds on the premises. Reed helps show you how to feed the birds and how to not get bitten (everything with a mouth can bite). Most of these birds are pets that people didn’t want to keep. With a 50/60 year lifespan, an exotic bird is a lifetime commitment that sometimes can’t be kept. Places like Uncle Sandy’s help keep these birds safe and happy. There is a great diversity of macaws, cockatoos, conures, and parrots.
The price is totally reasonable, but we made a donation above. Keeping a large bird is expensive, and there are a bunch of them there. Go and see some birds you’ve never seen before, listen to them talk, feed them, and have a good time!

If you are in the area, stop! This is such a hidden gem. When we first arrived, I had no idea what to expect. You are given a cup of food and taught how to feed the birds. The birds are beautiful and you can't beat the experience for the price. I would go back here if ever in the area.

Drove 50 minutes, and this sweet place did not disappoint. We all loved it - grandparents, parents and our kids (5 and almost 3 years). Older kids would enjoy as well. You are given an orientation, a cup of peanuts, and you can roam around feeding and talking to the birds. The workers have identified which birds are more aggressive with red stars. We got to feed the different animals including macaws, emus, turkeys, peacocks, and other parrots varieties. A volunteer spent extra time with us so we could experience more. Clean bathroom available. Outdoors but mostly shaded even after storm damage. Uneven ground so just watch your step.

I wish I could give this a zero view. This place literally creates beautiful, intelligent, beautiful birds into aggressive animals because of the environment they are kept in and the visitors that come and feed them. Stop visiting this place and feeding these birds in this way. Adopt them and give them the environment they need to thrive! This made me so sad! I am a previous bird owner and it is so sad to see one of the most highly intelligent birds (an African grey) the most aggressive here.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Uncle Sandy's. The volunteer staff were wonderful. We could not believe the number of birds they have. The colors are beautiful. Vivid reds, blues, yellows, etc. They gave each of us a cup with peanuts, orange, apple, and I think cooked macaroni. We will be back next visit to the area.

This is our 2nd time at Uncle Sandy's. We first were here summer 2018. This is one of my favorite places to stop at. Reed was very helpful and informative! I recommend stopping here!! Our kids enjoyed it back in 2018, they were 7, 7, and 11.

This place was fantastic. We didn’t expect much driving in but we left more than pleased. The staff was amazing. The birds were beautiful. Really cool place. Well worth every dollar. I highly suggest that you talk to the staff. They are very kind and very knowledgeable of the birds. It’s very interactive and you can hold some of the birds. They staff are extremely passionate about what they do.

Is the bird park mostly outdoor? Indoor? Or a combination of both?

Can you bring your own parrot? We are traveling with our cockatiel and need to see if we can stop there with him.

This is a rescue with lots of birds, but I guess you could call and ask.

I think so. Except maybe Holidays. Everyone who works there is a volunteer.

Sandy Carl Kirkconnell opened the park in 1998 as an LLC, and in 2010 we got our 501c3 non-profit status.
The park is run by an elected volunteer board and staffed by all volunteers. We currently have 111 feathered friends that we take care of daily.
Have a wonderful evening,
Charlotte

About how long should we allow to see the park with 3 teenagers? We were planning to arrive at 10 a.m.
Written 28 July 2016
Most folks tour the park in less than 2 hours.

Saturday's the park I open from 10 AM to 4 PM.

If I recall correctly, it is $5 per person. We donated more, because they are doing a heck of a job. Also, I just saw in their Facebook page, they are asking for donations, to put a mister system. So I encourage everyone if they have that extra dollar, to donate.
