Interesting museum

Excellent talk by knowledgeable guides relating surgical, dental and apothecary practices from before modern medicine. Plant and herbal talk was very interesting as well.

I arrived alone, but still got a personally guided educational tour of the facility. I learned so much about the difference in Spanish and English/US medical care in the colonial period. I was shown surgical tools, herbal remedies, and learned of the injury and disease problems of the City's past. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The docent was a very... More

This is a super little museum, the site is within easy walking distance of the centre of St Augustine, it has a small gift shop but no cafe. You are a short walk away from a number of cafes and restaurants. The staff/guides bring the museum to life. They had an excellent knowledge of medical procedures from the historic past,... More

The museum was very interesting. The staff brought everything to life. They were knowledgeable and kept visitors interested in the different exhibits. I also love that the museum is pet friendly. I went with my dog, Charlie, and he was scared by some noisy men in the park nearby. The staff went above and beyond to make sure Charlie was... More

We loved this tour of the hospital and actually learned a lot. Our guide walked us through the procedures with the instruments and it was absolutely fascinating. I think everyone has seen the "torture" medical instruments of yore and of course they are scary...but to actually be explained how they work was great. I highly recommend a stop at this... More

There is not much here to see. Didn't feel it was worth the price of admission. Would skip this and spend time elsewhere.

We attended as part of a 4th grade field trip and the period dressed female tour guide played the part of a medical nurse. She used a kid volunteer and demonstrated all the tools of the medical trade from the period. She went through different injury scenarios that an injured spainish soldier might go through. Lots of medical history and... More

We learned a great deal at this museum. Our guide was well versed in the history and folk medicine. In depth presentation of medical procedures and curative so of the time period. Well worth the admission.

What a very interesting historical museum of how hospital medical treatment was performed back in the day. Our tour guide didn't take a breath the entire tour. She was very informative with how the hospital would care for the wounded soldiers and sick. Amputation with out any anesthesia! Demonstration given of the tools and how things were done. It was... very interesting, especially if you have a medical background. Both tour guides did a fantastic job explaining what medical science was like in the 1500s
