Flagler College's historic campus is located just four miles from the Atlantic Ocean in the heart of St. Augustine, Fla., the “nation’s oldest city.”The college is named for Henry Morrison Flagler, a Gilded Age industrialist, railroad pioneer and partner with John D. Rockefeller in Standard Oil. In 1888, Flagler built the Hotel Ponce de Leon, his first in a series of luxury resorts along Florida’s east coast. A masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture and the first major poured-in-place concrete building in the United States is now known as Ponce de Leon Hall. This National Historic Landmark serves as the centerpiece for the Flagler College. The grand hotel launched the careers of young architects John Carrere and Thomas Hastings who are noted most for the New York Public Library and the House and Senate Office Buildings adjacent to the Capitol in Washington, D.C.The Edison Electric Company powered the building with steam heat and 4,000 electric lights, making the Ponce one of the nation’s first electrified buildings. Louis Comfort Tiffany is credited with the building’s interior design including the stained glass and mosaics. Murals were completed by George Willoughby Maynard and Virgilio Tojetti. The hotel was gifted to Flagler College when the institution was founded in 1968. Since then, the college has spent more than $43 million dollars restoring the historic campus and adding new buildings.

Love that Flagler gives tours! What a piece of history... and so beautifully maintained! It is hard to believe it is a college now. Make time to stop by at one of the tour times- the student guides are very knowledgeable.

We took a tour of Flagler College on a rainy day in Saint Augustine. Our tour guide, Blake, was very knowledgeable and entertaining! We learned intriguing facts about the hotel and got to see the beauty of the many architectural details up close, including Tiffany windows and original dining chairs. The tour was well worth our time and money. Highly... More

My son wanted to visit Flagler before making his college decision. The main building is just gorgeous! And the history of the college is fascinating. He decided to attend Flagler after our visit, so the next time I get to visit, I'll definitely take the tour they offer. The dining hall and the rotunda are worth a look.

While we were walking to our car near the Winery, we stopped to read the Plaque at Flagler College. It was interesting enough for us to stop in. The building is the former Ponce de Leon Hotel built for the elite and elite it was. It is a must see on your visit to St. Augustine. Take the tour. It's... More

The tour of the dormitory/dining hall is a must see. The former luxury hotel built in the 1880s is a magnificent example of how the rich vacationed back then. Flagler, Rockefeller, Edison, and Tiffany all played roles in its creation. The architecture, artwork, furnishings are preserved today. Tours are presented by current students who are extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic of... More

Took the tour with one of the students. Her name was Caroline. She was outstanding. This is a must-see tour. Twice a day at 10 and again around 2 Tickets can be purchased in the gift shop inside the Rotunda of the college. You will go out into the courtyard. The tour guide will talk about the hotel and the... More

Beautiful place with awesome history. Such a neat place to be able to go to college. Can't believe it was built in 18 months. Bought our tickets with the tram ticket but if you are a senior it would be cheaper to buy at the site.

An amazing tour with a fun tour guide, a Senior at the college who had a wealth of information about the history of the school, Mr. Flagler and the area.
