When you walk in to the Historic Capitol building, you are immediately struck at how small it is. Even with the 1902 expansion / renovation, it is, by today's standards, tiny. When you climb the stairs to the second floor, where the house and senate chambers are located, you realize that state government must have been much simpler back then.... More

We walked into this building and were cast back in time, as we saw where and how government was practiced in Florida in both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The collection , sequence and arrangement of photos, documents and the actual chambers of this old State House of Florida, was remarkable. WE left feeling a new pride for the USA... More

Effectively restored and preserved as an educational museum this site explains important government history. A number of rooms contain specific effective displays, many with video presentations geared toward school groups but interesting to all. We spent about an hour walking through the building and displays. A parking structure is located about a block away just northwest of the capitol complex.... More

We spent a morning here during a recent visit to Tallahassee. As we're English we didn't know a great deal about Florida history and we learnt a lot both about general history and the political system. Staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Both the facts of Florida's history as told in rooms where much of it happened and the story of how researchers worked on restoring the historic capitol are well presented. If you think of Florida only as palm trees and beaches and Disney, this will be your wake up call to learn more.

Great free way to spend an afternoon! Great if you're short on time, or have a few hours to kill. You just wander around on your own and there's lots of things to read and watch.

We spent a couple of hours viewing the exhibits here. Enjoyed the introductory film. Probably more interesting for Florida residents.

It's in the old capitol, a charming old (1845) building, and it's a good way to learn about the history of Florida.

Well preserved building, excellent and friendly docents to greet you upon entry.( I believe the gentleman's name that personally greeted me was James Smith.) They tell you all the pertinent info (bathrooms, etc) when you first go in so there is no room for confusion on your self-guided tour. Interactive, as they have a designated area where you can sit... Well worth a visit to learn about Florida's history and role of state government. Excellent introduction from young woman at the desk. Selfie opportunity in state rooms.
