Visitors are welcome year-round to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, the inspirational home of Georgia’s Trappist Monks. With more than 2,300 acres of contemplative space, the Monastery is less than an hour from Atlanta’s international airport. The new Monastic Heritage Center – a 17,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art museum – is educational, interactive and kid-friendly. There is also a bonsai garden, store and cafe. At the Abbey Gift Shop, which is the largest Christian bookstore in Georgia, visitors can purchase monk-made biscotti, fruitcake and fudge, all of which the monks sell in an effort to be self-sustaining and feed the local poor. You can also see the Norman Gothic architecture of the Abbey Church and take a quiet stroll along the lake, or spend time in prayer and meditation.

It is out in the country a bit - as befits a desire to be somewhat removed from the world. And indeed you do leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind if you choose to make your way here. There is a beautiful picnic spot with table by a pend with several always present geese. It is pastorally... More

My husband and I visited the monastery for the first time! There is a wonderful gift shop, beautiful grounds, and amazing bonsai trees! They have bakery items for sale. The fudge is creamy and delicious. I will be attending one of their many weekend retreats this summer. I look forward to the quiet and solitude.

I recommend any person to come in visit this monastery. It has a lot for you to see. You can even plan a bike ride or walk along the river trail through the Monastery property. I would say it is very relaxing.

What a lovely place to spend several quiet hours. Although I am not Catholic, this is one of my favorite places to come. My daughter and I were able to sit in on a noon prayer service. So peaceful. We enjoyed visiting the gift shop and garden shops.

A lovely peaceful spot. There is a lake, and you could take a picnic and sit there by the lake. The gift shop offers unique gifts both religious and not so much. The Monks make fudge, fruitcake, and jellies/jams which are available for purchase in the gift shop. The Peach Brandy Fudge is yummy. We attended a service, walked by... More

This is a beautiful place to visit, the prayer walk is quiet and a great place to just walk and think. The chapel is quiet and beautiful, the light that comes through the windows gives the place a blue purple hue. The museum is very informative and the best way to start your visit. Don't forget to visit the monastery... More
