There's a lot to do on the lake. Fishing, swimming, boating etc. The dam is large and you can walk up the steps to the top. You are allowed to walk to the side of the dam. Some areas are off limits, but the view is awesome.

Fishing, skiing, boating, scuba diving ... one of my favorite Georgia lakes. There are many well maintained campgrounds surrounding this relatively clear and deep lake. There is a neat mountain bike trail near Paynes Creek Campground and right on the other side of the great big slab of concrete trout swim. A healthy looking reservoir from a layman's perspective.

Hubby and I have returned to our favorite campground on Lake Hartwell, Watsadler Corp of Engineers campground. Even though we live less than an hour from here, this is our favorite place to camp! Beautiful environment, well maintained, wonderful staff, and so Relaxing! This campground is only 5 miles from Hartwell, Ga. It is convenient for restocking, also has plenty... More

Good for exercising and walking the dam. It's beautiful at sunset and very relaxing. There are picnic tables with grills. The water bottom is rocky and muddy. No beach area. No lifeguards. There is a boat dock and there are restrooms which are not the cleanest I've seen. There is a playground for the kids. There ate pavilions available and... More

I have walked the Dam on hundreds of occasions and still peer forward to the ensuing opportunity. Experience the unsullied country air and optimistic faces of the many fitness sentient Hartwell region residents. Take a moment to adore the sunset at one of the parks picnic tables, a fantastic way to cool down after an invigorating walk.

I grew up in Townville. A good friend of mine moved roughly a mile or so away from the dam. It's beautiful. It's probably one of the best spots in all of Anderson. Lake Hartwell has always been my go to relaxation point.

Walking is great but can get rather monotonous without music or a partner. The sunsets are breathtaking over the water. Wouldn't go by myself for safety reasons.

Escape the crowds of Lake Lanier and enjoy the beauty of Lake Hartwell. Situated off I 85 on the Georgia/South Carolina border, the lake is ideal for fishing, water sports, or just relaxing for a boat ride or a cool swim.
