The Jekyll Island Historic District is a must if you are staying on Jekyll Island, Brunswick or St. Simons. The grounds are lovely and the homes are lovingly restored. Many fascinating details about the life of both the wealthy who were members of the club and the laborers who served them. You can pay for a tour that goes inside... More

Jekyll island is beautiful in its natural beauty but the folks are pretty racist, obviously not all but a lot of unfriendly faces. With the exception of the Sea Turtle Center, the glass artists shop and this really nice horse carriage lady who spent time talking to us and telling us about the history the vibe is very unfriendly towards... This tour was very interesting to see how the wealthy of the east coast vacationed in cottages. The cottages were mini mansions with adjoining tennis courts, bowling alleys, and pools in indoor buildings like a barn next to their cottages. Loved hearing the stories of those who lived on the island seasonally. Tour guide very interesting. Definitely do the tours.... More

Love learning the history of the island. The Cottages as they are called were beautiful homes. Did the tour from the museum and then after the tour we went to the chapel and looked at the stained-glass windows it was absolutely gorgeous. The weather was wonderful and it was not crowded at all.

We love the historic district and seeing all the beautifully restored old mansions. Christmas is are favorite time with all the lights at night. They do a beautiful job. Love the old museum as well.

Simply a beautiful place with amazing restoration and preservation efforts. The hotel is lovely, old-school. Surrounding homes have such historical significance. Grounds are beautifully maintained. Stop and rock on the front porch of hotel for a beautiful sunset.

We did not have an opportunity to actually take an official tour, but we did love to venture around on our own and look at all of the lovely buildings. Will definitely come back on a regular vacation and take in all the sites.

We visit Jekyll several times a year and never get tired of visiting the historic district. They are continually working on restoring properties to showcase more if the great history. There are shops located here that offer alot of locally made goods and you can find a little something for everyone here. Even if you are not staying at the... More

My recommendation for visiting the historic district is to take the tram tour during the spring or fall when the weather is cooler and the mosquitoes are not active. The tram museum is filled with historic information related to the island and hosts a great gift shop. The tram ride takes you to several of the historic homes in the... More
