Welcome to our Museum, which is operated on a volunteer basis by members of the Military Vehicle Preservation Society of South Australia. The Society is one of many Military Vehicle Clubs across Australia and throughout the world and its members are dedicated to the preservation of vehicles that are of military origin. The museum was developed as away of providing undercover storage for the vehicles and at the same time allowing the public to view them.

Opened in August 1993 at the old Messenger Press building at Port Adelaide and now relocated to a group of historic WW2 era buildings within the Defence precinct of Edinburgh Parks this museum is unique number of ways. The majority of the vehicles are privately owned by the Society members and therefore each member is responsible for their own vehicles. In addition the vehicles are not just restored to look at, they are rebuilt to authentic running condition and most are road registered and driven regularly. Military vehicles and items range from the First World War to current times.

What a great place to see some Aussie defence history. The $15 price is a bit steep. Lots of pensioner/ex servicemen visit and still pay full price

Thanks for the review, Donna. The $15 entry fee was for the open day, which was a special fun-raising event. Our standard entry price is much lower and we also normally have a concession ticket available. As always, kids under 15 are free (for up to 3 children, when accompanied by an adult). More

The Museum is only open on Sundays 10am - 4pm, and Public Holidays (not Christmas) and costs $10 for Adults. They do have some "open days" throughout the year. I took my Dad there in his wheelchair and he enjoyed the displays and chatting to a volunteer. He was disappointed they did not have a cafe, or specific disabled toilets.... More

I won't babble on too much about this museum because you really have to see it with your own eyes. The building outside is nothing special but it's what's going on inside that matters. There are heaps of military vehicles in this modest sized building. Most WWII, but I'll let the pictures sell you on deciding to go or not.... More

They have a large range of military vehicles here, ranging from horse drawn vehicles through to WW2. The displays are broken up into several sections, a large room was a large range of communications devices, a section of RAAF vehicles including a mobile radar unit, the Army section which includes an old WW1 armoured car, mobile kitchens, several artillery pieces,... This is one of those places that if you like looking at old military vehicles then you are going to love - the collection is simply huge, and from what I have been told they all work as well. Most of the collection are World War II vehicles, but there are numerous vehicles from other periods as well. The collection... More

I recently visited this museum with my girlfriend and enjoyed our time exploring the various war exhibits and vehicles. There is a good variety of WW2 trucks, Jeeps and specialty vehicles which can be browsed up close. Most vehicles have been well restored and are still complete. A few exhibits were a little on the shabby side with dust and... More

Thanks for the feedback. While the militaria displays aren't our primary focus, that's still no excuse for them having not been maintained to an acceptable standard and therefore we have had some of the volunteers clean them up over the weekend and they should now pass muster. The main museum hall is getting a little crowded and with another large... More

For anyone who plays the call of duty series or Battlefield you will be amazed at what they have stashed away in these storage sheds from WW2. From amphibious to land vehicles to a tank. Awesome to check out even with the kids. Great variety.

well worth a look. out near the RAAF Base at Edinburgh Parks, on Sturton Road (next to the big Coles warehouse).. heaps of old military vehicles, tank, jeeps, guns, uniforms, even the old war buildings are great to look through. KIDS had a ball (me too).. only $8 to get in, or $20 for a family I think
