Great history lessons!

We had been to the Historic Coast Guard Center several times. It was one of our favorite places that was gorgeous and beautifully restored. However, we tried visiting this summer and were told it was closed for a remodel. We tried again today only to see it looks to be PERMANENTLY closed!?! Sign out front states it will become a... The beach access at the Coast Guard Station was great. It was not totally deserted but we had most of the beach to ourselves. It was very pet friendly and we were there at low tide so our small dog could play in the many tide pools. There is a very large parking lot and impressively clean/large bathroom facilities with... We were very disappointed this venue was CLOSED for Renovation - might reopen in October 2016? Small sign is posted on the door, which is mean for us handicapped folks who must get scooter out of car just to read the sign. REALLY!!!!

Again this appealed to both boys. My oldest for history and Seth was entertained. Best thing to me was air conditioning! Great exhibits.

a somewhat limited exhibit, some things about the lifesaving station here, a lot about the ecology of the area as well. admission to the lighthouse museum includes the maritime center as well, so if you have time, go to both. but i don't think i'd single this out for a special trip

Here is a traveler tidbit for you: buy a ticket to this or the lighthouse and see both for only one price! We did and we were glad we took the time to see them both. The lighthouse is awesome, and then the Maritime Museum, which housed the Coast Guard for many years is also awesome. Take a walk on... More

For $12 you get admission to the lighthouse museum which allows you to climb to the top (129 steps) and the Coast Guard Museum which is about 2 miles down the road. The views of the island are fantastic from the top and it's worth the short drive to check out the Coast Guard museum as well. Both have interactive... More

You gain access to this museum as part of the fee that you pay to visit the lighthouse. The museum is well designed and the exhibits are informative.
