If you know anything at all about Saint Simons Island you will love Christ Church. It is a favorite place of mine. It helps that I've read and re-read all of Eugenia Price's Historical Fiction novels about SS. She brings to life the people who settled the island, and visiting Christ Church and the Cemetery bring those people to life.... More

Our family attended the Christmas Eve service at Christ Church with my sister, who is a member. This wasn't our first service, nor will it be our last. We appreciate the reverence and atmosphere, not to mention the addition of the choir and musician to our religious experience.

Took a Lighthouse Trolley trip around St. Simons Island. Christ Church set in the backdrop of ancient oaks had to be highlight of the day. We stopped and heard the love story of Anson Phelps Dodge, buried in the grave yard next to the church, among other notable residents. The Episcopal Church is the second oldest in Georgia and still... More

Set against a backdrop of ancient moss- covered oak trees on well maintained grounds sits the historical Christ Church and cemetery. As soon as I walked onto the lush grounds, I felt a sense of deep inner peace as a gentle breeze moved through the hanging moss in the oaks. It was a beautiful sunny day and quiet except for... You get the history of the island from learning how this church was built, and how it has endured so many years. The docent was very knowledgeable and friendly. I love that this is more than a preserved historical site, but it is still a home church and place of worship.

The cemetery is fascinating and so many old markers. The oldest one I saw was 1777! The grounds are beautifully maintained and the church building is beautiful! I would recommend comfortable shoes. I would also pick a cooler day since much of the sights are outside.

While the exterior looks subdued and simple, the inside architectural details will astound any visitor. Beautifully preserved with minute details in the walls and ceilings. The docent was very knowledgeable and offered experienced advice, pointing out details that I would have overlooked otherwise. make sure to walk around and visit the cemetery, which contains a lot of recognizable names in... Detoured into Saint Simons Island just to see this church. Beautiful grounds. A huge Hickory just out behind the church had recently blown over when Matthew came through. Sad. Never seen table like grave stones before..
