my plans got cancelled due to weather, so I decided to head to Kaskaskia. The bell was a gift the King of France. If you're close to here I would come and visit but wouldn't drive too far outta the way.

Kaskaskia is the only point in Illinois west of the Mississippi River - a bit of a drive to get to, but so interesting with plenty of interpretive signs about Lewis & Clark's travels through the area and the 1st French settlers influence in the...More

Being a history buff, my wife and I made the long drive from St.Louis to Kaskaskia Island to view this famous Liberty Bell of the West. Although the island is part of Illinois, you can only reach it from Missouri through a rather dismal, dying...More

I live in Eastern Kentucky and my son has moved to the same county as this bell. The drive from Illinois takes you across the Mississippi River and around some back roads of Missouri to actually get to Kaskaskia which is on the West side...More

This is a very important piece of our history tucked away in a very remote area of Illinois, (which you actually access from St. Mary's, Missouri). The old church next door is beautiful! Just look for it's tall steeple to find this landmark.

The method of viewing of the bell was a very good idea. Push a button and a door opens. For history buffs a very interesting place. The entire site is also of interest to those with geology background because of the river history.

It was so interesting to learn that this bell was donated by Louis XV King of France in the 1700's and that it was conservated. Very interesting place!
