This is one of the last free zoos in the U.S. It is completely supported by donations. We were there today and saw a polar bear, lions, and the new macaque monkeys. It is winter here so the zoo was not very crowded. It is very walkable and recently redesigned many exhibits.

I love animals so naturally I love zoos. I have been to several small zoos throughout the United States but this one is my all time favorite. If you are coming to Chicago, skip the Brookfield Zoo and take the Clark Street bus to the zoo. It is open year round and depending on the season there is always something... More

again the restrooms need upgrading other than that it was all right for January I would expect there's more activity and animals in the summer. The sun was actually out. But my iPhone was being stolen while I was there so...

Let's start with a tip about parking. The official lot of the zoo is $20. This is clearly nuts. I drove behind the zoo (west side) and parked for free on the street. The zoo is free, but after visiting I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the zoo. There are a wide variety of animals and most... More

They have a lot of animals and the zoo is pretty big. We have been able to see the zoo lights in december and it was great. To do with children for sure, but to do anymways. Free admission.

Oldest free zoo in the US. Great exhibits, holiday events etc. The kids will love it! If you are there around the holidays go check out Zoo Lights. Very nice way to walk around the zoo at night. Fun family place.

We enjoyed a lovely winter day in this zoo. Free admittance. Nobody around during the day due to the cold, but a lot to see inside (giraffes, hipos, lions, gorillas, etc..), but also a lot to see outside during the evening - Zoo Lights "festival" - the outside of the zoo is coming to life just in the evening, becoming... Liked the lion and tiger exhibits. African area was slightly small, though. Penguins and polar bears. Otters and eagles. Camels and snakes. A great assortment for a free attraction!
