We stopped in here to gather some gifts to take home for friends. We were blown away by the selection and the high quality options available here. This is such a cute historic shop and we were able to pick up some great gifts for others and ourselves! Everything from daily toiletries to luxury cosmetics and shaving products to medications... I've been coming to Merz ever since I was a young adult. I'm of German descent and I'll often visit and call my German momma to ask what she needs, and there is always something on her list. The space is cramped and that just lends to it's charm. The staff is helpful without being overbearing or pushy which is... More

I love coming here to get gifts for the ladies in my life. The selection of soaps, lotions, and other necessities is outstanding. And it's not just for women; they have a great selection. Of men's products too. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I visit every time I visit Chicago.

If you are into traditional wet shaving, this is your place in Chicago. The prices are better than Art of Shaving, and the selection is very good. Lots of shaving soaps, brushes, double-edge safety razors, and after-shaves. They also have a really nice selection of double edge blades, but you need to ask for them. They keep a basket of... The apothecary expanded, adding a whole attached shop for shaving. It's expensive, but the service is friendly and you can ask for test strips. Warning: the smell of shaving products is very strong.

Stocked with every lotion, soap, and fragrance the mind can imagine. Some hard to find items and a nice supply of razors and creams for men really left me impressed. Between the baby, my wife and myself there was definitely something for all of us! Staff was friendly and extremely knowledgable. Will definitely be heading back soon. This is also... More

A Chicago must! Located in the ground floor next to the Palmer House, they sell imported specialty soaps and elixirs and scents, holistic tinctures and whipped up fixes, many used by Europeans for centuries. Everything nicely arranged. They have a baby department for natural baby products and were one of the only early outlets for Persil. They also offer poison... More

I fell in love with this place from the moment I walked in the door. Hundreds of European/Asian/Artisan body care products. Unique perfumes and many products I have never seen before. I spent more than 90 minutes just wandering around the store trying new products and finding great gifts. The staff was also extremely helpful. Helped me pick out an... More

What a treat browsing through the aisles of Merz Apothecary! It takes you back to a different time when a drug store actually gave you good advise and they knew the products they sold. Merz also stocks a fair amount of European products that are hard to find in the US. Do yourself a favor and avoid the chain drug... More

Stumbled onto Merz Apothecary when showing husband around Palmer House HIlton (reliving first trip to Chicago 30 years ago). What an amazing store! If we'd been checking luggage on our flight I would have bought so many lotions and potions, great selection of creams and gels from, especially, England. As it was I indulged in powders, and it was a... More
