Not as spectacular in unique graves in my humble opinion to Graceland Cemetery, Rosehill still can take your breath away if you know where to look. This is by far the biggest cemetery I've been and I had to go twice to find the tombs and landmarks I wanted to see. The Ravenswood entrace in Joliet limestone is a Chicago... More

I took a sales position there some twenty years ago, and there wasn't one of us who didn't at one time see or hear something 'ghostly,' if you will. On my part, I witnessed an other-worldly swirling haze, the height of a person, just behind one of the larger upright tombstones. It was quite peculiar, since it was in broad... More

I have a cousin buried at Rosehill and so we were close by and decided to stop. This by far has to be one of the most beautiful Cemetery's that I ever been to. It's so big and it's been a while I was lost and went back to the Admin's office. They were very helpful and even gave us... More

The Ravenswood Avenue entrance is an architectural treasure recognized as a Chicago Landmark. Stop by the cemetery office and pick up a map highlighting some of the amazing people who called Chicago home and who influenced the nation. Some of the monuments are simply works of art.

I was trying to prepare for this walk around the cemetery a day before but I couldn't find any decent map of it posted on line. And later when I went to the administrative building at the cemetery I learned that they don't have any brochures for a self walking tour or neither any decent map with notables noted on... More

Yes...Rosehill is easily the second best cemetery in Chicago if you are speaking of historical and odd sites. Many of Chicago's shakers and movers from the past lie here. There is also the original Fire fighters memorial, and Civil War dead. As an extra bonus the southwest corner of the propery is now a nature preserve with nice walking paths.... More

Beautiful Victorian era cemetery. Feels very old world with big crypts and masuleuom. It's also great exercise. Beautiful place to walk.

After visiting historic Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, and Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., my wife and I became fascinated with visiting famous cemeteries...such as St. Michael's in Charleston, South Carolina, Mount Moriah in Deadwood, South Dakota, the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific i Honolulu, Boothill in Tombstone, Arizona, Oak Ridge in Springfield,... More

I was on my own on July Fourth and looking for something patriotic to do. This was perfect. Rosehill is the final resting spot for many Civil War Union soldiers, officers and families. I enjoyed an elegant stroll led by a CAF guide named Ellen S. who was knowledgeable, personable, able to answer almost any question or could direct you... More

This is one of the most peaceful and beautiful cemeteries ever. It has a rich history of Chicago within its walls from the Civil War to it's artist and sculptors. I go here often as my family is resting here.
