St. James Cathedral is a vibrant and historic Episcopal church in the heart of downtown Chicago, welcoming you as you are, without conditions or expectations. Week by week, we grow together, following Jesus into a loving, liberating, and life-giving relationship with God, with each other, and with the earth. We find inspiration in traditional worship and progressive, theologically-grounded teaching which fully embraces all people into the body of Christ regardless of age, ethnicity, expression, orientation, or background. We seek to engage with our communities by listening to our neighbors, serving those in need, and asking challenging and culturally relevant questions about faith, identity, and experience. We invite you to worship with us, to learn with us, to share with us, and to join this imperfect yet authentic congregation where you belong and you are welcome.

Some churches are staunchly set in the past, making them irrelevant in the present. St. James Cathedral is an Episcopal church with a storied past, but they seem to be wholeheartedly embracing the present and even the future. I found the community to be welcoming...More

Upon entry the wonderful sounds of the organist practicing welcomed me to St. James. How the light struck the arches and the windows was breathtaking. While finding an inner peace the beautiful music accentuated the warmth of this inviting Cathedral.

Superbly calming, especially alongside the chaotic atmosphere of downtown Chicago. The architecture of the cathedral is wonderful and the organ is fabulous (we happened to enter as an organist was running through some practice).

St James Cathedral is located next to the Driehaus Museum, and is yet rather hidden. The main doors are not open, and people enter through the back. Perhaps because of this, the cathedral was totally empty when I was there. It is nice to have...More

We attended the family service on a Sunday morning, and while we found attendance to be sparse, we did find the communicants to be friendly and welcoming.
