Amazing Cathedral

Had to stop by with my son and show him how beautiful Holy Name Cathedral is inside and outside. They do not make Cathedral like this any more.

Stopped in to get out of the rain last week and discovered this beautiful church. Very peaceful place. Organist was practicing and playing softer than at a normal mass so it was quite pleasing. Ceiling arches are all wood that are absolutely stunning. Wished I had gone to mass here. My visit was during the week around 3'ish so didn't... More

A haven in the midst of the frenetic city of Chicago. A lovely place for a bit of reflective peace and quiet.

The natural elements of Illinois - stone, timber, glass for windows are merged into a statement of the spirituality leading up to the awesomeness of creation and the movement of the Holy Spirit into our own time and place. In the morning the sunlight coming through the Eastern windows cast a beautiful purple glaze over the wooden ceiling and the... More

Exquisite cathedral luckily arrived in time to see procession of little ones for their first communion. If you go notice the cardinal caps hanging in the dome.

Beautiful inside & out. Very elaborate but the stained glass windows were a letdown as they had no 'scenes', just numerous colorful vertical pieces of glass.

From the 1800s, this is a beautiful cathedral and the original congregation here consisted of Irish. The roof is exceptional and worth seeing. We were seated close to the front when a priest came out with a young couple - and their lovely marriage took place! It was nice to see and the priest gave them such friendly and close... More

This house of worship is a very fine place to visit for quiet, meditation, and prayer. I went for a visit this time but in the past have attended the mass service which is inspiring and uplifting.

A very high ceiling constructed of what appeared to be walnut in a form and format similar to Christopher Wren. A very beautiful structure with modern stained glass windows. Be sure to walk forward towards the alter at least halfway and then look back over your shoulder at one of the larger pipe organs you will ever see.

My family and I went to the 9:30am Easter Sunday Mass. I was astonished at the amount of people attending. We arrived at approx 9:10am, and there was already lines waiting for the previous mass to exit. The Ushers and what appeared to be security, were very friendly, and accomidating. Once mass let out, the lines moved quickly. We got... More
