The owner of the sanctuary gave us a talk on how he used to hunt these beautiful creatures and now he has made it his life work to rescue them. There are turtles of varying sizes in different tanks that are brought back to health before being released into the ocean. The owners stories make the trip worthwhile and, in... More

Clearly this man has a passion for the turtles and for saving them. He lacks money and modern technology but his action over the past 30 years have undoubtedly saved many turtles and at the same time given people who would never see a turtle up close and personal experience of the caribbean and it's fragile eco system. Well done!

The turtle sanctuary was a short taxi ride from the fairy terminal. The is a $6 USD, well worth the donation. Turtles on site range in age from a few weeks to 12 years. It is a great way to get up close to the turtle and take photos.

There's not much to see here but the young local guide made us glad we came. His personal stories about how he came to work here and love turtles were worth the visit. The facility itself is unimpressive but since I also love turtles I was glad to have visited. Afterwards you can stroll over to the Sugar Reef for... More

Only a small operation but the turtles are beautiful and hopefully the work will continue. There is a need for some larger tanks for the bigger turtles.

Understand the green reasons for the sanctuary but not a lot to see. A nice walk from town or part of a tour would be ok.

A selection of Turtles in various stages of life. Very friendly and informative staff. If you go to Bequia you have to go to this place, the Turtles actually interact with you.

The sanctuary is an amazing effort by its founder to protect the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle. The sanctuary solely relies on visitor entrance fees which means its small, underfunded and slightly shabby. Though its appearance may not look very professional, Old Hegg Sanctuary makes an invaluable effort for the conservation of theTurtles, in an area where they are hunted for... More
