We saw a brown sign on Hwy 84, going north from the Quad Cities along the Mississippi in Illinois. “Windmills”. We had no agenda, so we took the detour. What a treat. Who knew that the engineering of windmills could be so fascinating. The whole...More

The De Immigrant Windmill and the Museum across the street should be considered one. We toured the Windmill first and then spent considerable time at the Museum. The windmill is fully operational. Our guide did an excellent job explaining how the windmill worked. The fabrication...More

This is an authentic working windmill that was built in the Netherlands, shipped over and reconstructed by Dutch workers. When the wind conditions are right it is still used for grinding and you can go inside and see how it operates. There is a nice...More

Went here today with my aunts and walked along the riverwalk. It was a sunny day and the walk was great. There is a museum that shows different types of windmills, sells souvenirs and windmill produce, and also does educational talks. The staff were friendly.

We loved visiting this windmill but were disappointed that the sails were not turning. It still is something to see on the banks of the Mississippi. The Cultural Center is interesting, too. Nice people at both the windmill and the Cultural Center.

Ok, we lucked out the Saturday we happened on the mill. They were grinding grain with the sails fully out. Experienced millers were on hand to demonstrate and explain everything about the windmill and the mill. Educational and entertaining at the same time. Don’t miss...More

We both really enjoyed seeing the windmill. The lady that gave the tour was very informative. It was very interesting and learned a lot history.

See Dutch culture first hand with costumed guides explaining how windmills work and grind meal. Everything works and they actually make and sell flour in different grades.
