The green drapes from "Gone with the Wind" are one of the many interesting items on display at this 22-room Italianate-style home. Built in 1857, the mansion now exhibits period furnishings and also includes items from the estate of flamboyant entertainer Liberace.

I happened to drive by this grand home and I stopped for a tour. I love the big porches and the tower. This may be the most grand home in Galena. I saw a couple of other smaller, similar ones but this was the biggest. It is on a bluff near the city park. I could see a Civil War... More

We were there on November 11th (Veterans Day) and found that they were closed for the season. Their website indicated that their tours run "generally through the middle of November. (Wouldn't that be the 15th?) Okay, they did say generally but why close before a federal holiday weekend when the town is hopping with people?

Worth a visit. Just don't expect to see original pieces and artifacts. It's basically filled with the current uber-wealthy owners' collection of antiques they've collected from various sources. Not really historical to the mansion. However, the tour guides were excellent and provide history regarding the mansion itself.

A friend and I, who'd never been to Galena, were there on October 24, 2016. We toured the Belvedere Mansion and were amazed that it's a private residence part of the year, and a tourist attraction the rest of the time. We were dazzled at the story (built by a wealthy river boat captain) and almost were too overwhelmed by... More

This mansion is amazing. The furnishings take you back to the days of the steamship captain that had the house built for $18,000 back in the 1800's. Our guides were very knowledgeable about the history of this magnificent house.

This mansion is packed with antiques and beautiful artifacts, some of which are priceless. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun. We were already pretty worn out when we got there, so my husband and I couldn't handle the stairs up to the second floor, but our guide was very accommodating and allowed us to wait and rejoin the... Nice site to see, but if there are over 6 in your group, it will not be do-able as you cannot get into the rooms (except 1). You have to peek inside from hallway, one at a time, which is a real pain in the butt. No photos allowed. Cannot see into most rooms very well. Docents have a VERY... More

Best tour we went on. While this house has been updated more than some of the others, it is simply beautiful. Current owner has filled it with period correct items. It will wow you.

This is well worth the price of admission. Very interesting and informative tour. Great tour guides. This is an impressive piece of Galena's history with some literally priceless antiques inside.

Tour guide said it was open until 5:00 pm. We arrive at 3:45 and found a note on the door that said ". Tour in progress. Ring the bell once and have a seat, we will be with you shortly?" We took seats on the porch and wIted. After about a half an hour the grounds worker came and asked... More
