The green drapes from "Gone with the Wind" are one of the many interesting items on display at this 22-room Italianate-style home. Built in 1857, the mansion now exhibits period furnishings and also includes items from the estate of flamboyant entertainer Liberace.

A lot of history in this mansion but the current owner has it filled with his own antique collection and although it's nice to see such collectible items would've been nice to keep it to what the mansion would've looked like at the time. Some...More

After waiting a half hour we were finally invited in for a tour. Much to our surprise after we were in it announced there was 25 dollars a couple. No sign of any fee outside the home or in ads. We turned around and left.

I was absolution blown away by this gaudy mansion! One picture could wipe out my entire debt! There were pieces from Liberace's collection, pieces that belonged to Theodore Roosevelt, a chair that was in the Vatican, the drapes that hung in the sitting room were...More

Was really looking forward to this tour. Have been to hundreds of old mansions in Chicago, US, and abroad and every one has a bathroom for visitors. The guy here was so rude when he said "of course not" he spoiled the entire tour. House...More

This is a nice old mansion that has been well restored. Tour guides were friendly and fairly knowledgeable. Thought the price of admission was a bit out of line. Especially after taking the tour. The stories about the house and how the various rooms were...More

This could either be really interesting or quite the opposite depending on what you are hoping to see. This is not a historic home with original or period pieces. Instead it contains a massive amount of furniture and items that the current owner collected. There...More

The Belvedere Mansion has 22 rooms and was built in 1857. The mansion and the gardens are open to the public from mid-May to mid-November. I thought the $12 ticket price was high for a tour of a house that is not famous or historic....More

My adult daughter (a history buff) and I visited Belvedere Mansion, after driving by it on our way to our B&B. Although a couple areas were being renovated and we were the only guests at the tail-end of their day, the staff was welcoming and...More

Very beautiful old home. Beautiful setting. Not very period appropriate though. The current owner has tons upon tons of personal collected pieces including some from Liberace and they just don't fit with the period or the history of the home. Its way too cluttered and...More
