We have been to several shows in this intimate theater and all have been well worth the trip. They do a mixture of serious and funny plays with a small semi pro cast. The theater is in a shopfront with one store being the entrance and the other the theater. Keep them in mind!

Oil Lamp is located downtown Glenview in a restaged restaurant space. The original bar, next to an old fashion parlor, can provide wine glasses, if you BYOB. The Oil Lamp has seasonal drinks like hot chocolate,or cider, which they offer patrons, as well as dishes of munchies, like M&Ms and cashews. Of course, homemade cookies draw as many play-goers as... Imagine if you were invited to someone's home to see a play performed by a small cast with big talent. That is what it is like to experience a play at the Oil Lamp. Located in the heart of Glenview in a remodeled site that was once a restaurant, there is ample parking around the area including the lot next... More

We visited for the first time in March for a Sunday matinee performance of "Proof". The entire experience was surprisingly good. We were welcomed warmly at the door and the lobby area is comfortable and pleasant. Corkage and glassware is complimentary, as are nut snacks and candies. It is a nice place to gather before the play or to mingle... More

The theater is very small but very pleasant. It s not world class or trend setting, so I would not recommend a special trip to the north suburbs just to see a play there.... but for locals who enjoy good and easy theater and don't feel like fighting the traffic I strongly recommend. The acting is good to dissent and... More

I am a subscriber and donor for Oil Lamp Theater. This is a non-profit operation and like many other theaters need donations. It is a small theater formerly a storefront. The lobby consists of a bar and an area set up as a parlor (for those of you very young, a parlor is a living room or just where you... More

My wife and I took my parents visiting from out of town to the Bleacher Bums show a few weeks ago. This was our first visit with plans for many more visits in the future. We live down the street and glad to know this gem lives in our neighborhood. The theater is small and intimate so you are right... More

We recently purchased the equivalent of season tickets at the Oil Lamp theatre. We just saw a performance of Murderers and, like the previous two plays, came away very impressed with the entire experience. The quality of the shows have been consistently impressive. The customer service touches of the theatre make a huge difference-from the complimentary cookies to the water... More

This is a don't-miss-it theater. Nestled in downtown Glenview, this intimate professional theater couples good plays, excellent acting, and a warm atmosphere. It's a BYOB establishment, which also provides complimentary soft drinks, candy, nuts, cookies, and friendly conversation. Unlike most theaters, where you just keep to yourself in the lobby and theater, you'll find you want to talk to other... More
