I expected this to be a tiny, local museum; in truth it does focus on the local, central Illinois natives but has stuff regarding cultures from across North America. It's a three story building where you start at the top and it put everything in chronological order for you as you work you way back down to the first floor... More

Once a great place to visit and learn about local and regional history is now little more then an after thought that is ignored by most. It has fallen into terrible disrepair and the exhibits need cleaned and refreshed. Used to have a real nice playground and picnic area, now like the museum itself it needs maintenance. The grass wasn't... More

Was here when I was a kid, before the remains were forced to be covered. My boyfriend was here for a visit, and I thought this would be something different to do. It's a very educational and moving experience. Very interesting to see all of the Indian artifacts. Would recommend this place to everyone.

A truly moving place, the burial site of the tribes that lived in the Mississippi valley. the digs have been cover by court order, but the exhibits are still worth the trip. Several movies tell the history of the area and the people who once lived there. Artifacts of the way of life, very well done and a very good... More

This is a beautiful building with much strong information. Unfortunately it was marred by a couple of problems. Apparently there was a mound within walking distance but we could not find it. When we asked a woman at the front desk, she seemed unable to answer. As a result we don't know if we missed out or not. Additionally, the... More

Very historical and interesting. A self guided tour that tells what life was like when the Indians lived there.

Budget cuts had forced the closure of Dickson Musuem but luckily for us it reopened recently. It houses a treasure trove of Native American artifacts and show cases life as they lived it. The museum has a picnic area for families. The drive along the scenic wetlands of Illinois river and the Emiquon, Rice Lake Nature Parks is very pleasant.... More

This used to be a great place to spend an hour or two learning and relaxing while looking at the scenery. The surrounding area is great landscape along with the Emiquon area. Unfortunately it is now Closed! CLOSED!

I found this museum by accident while driving the Illinois River scenic byway. It was almost the highlight of that trip. My wife is a bigger history buff than I so I brought her here a few months later. She appreciated its thoroughness. We were sorry to hear that it was scheduled to close about a week later due to... Sadly we went on the last day before budget cuts are closing. We sure hope this is temporary. The museum had so much information regarding the history of Illinois from a geological perspective as well as learning about the influence of the Native Americans in the area. The grounds around the museum are beautiful and worth leaving extra time to... More
